"Today we will be working on your persuasion techniques," Anakin said, gesturing around at the very generic cafe he'd programmed into the Danger Shop. "I am a mid-ranking government official from a country or planet your government is interested in spying on. I have damaging information about my boss. Your job is to get me to tell it to you."

He smiled. "All options you can think of are on the table today, but remember that I'm a trained Jedi and mind tricks have no effect upon me."

He sat down in one of the metal cafe chairs. "Perhaps can start by buying me a cup of coffee."

Perhaps, but it reminded him that drinks could be tampered with and so he'd take a pass.

"He's complicated," Anakin hedged.

"I bet!" Charlie shook her head. "I feel for you. I've heard rumors and well... anyway, it can't be easy."

"What have you heard?" Anakin asked.

She shook her head. "Like you I don't like to talk out of school. Just, well like you said, it's complicated. And that, well... he might be doing things that could only make your job harder."

She rolled her eyes. "We probably have thatin common."

"He loves to make my life difficult," Anakin agreed.

"Yeah?" Charlie said. "Like what - no, no, I shouldn't even ask. Sorry. I just know sometimes I just wish I could talk to someone about my boss, but yeah, anyway. It's tough, I bet."

"I am the soul of discretion," Anakin agreed even though by being at the meeting at all, he wasn't.

"Oh, I know," Charlie assured him. "And I certainly would never want to cause you a problem or ask you to say anything about him." Except for where she totally sort of was.

"But if you ever did..." she shook her head. "Not a word from me."

"I'd need guarantees of that," Anakin said, picking apart his muffin.

"Guarantees like...?"

She waved a hand at herself. "Look at me. Who do you think would believe anything I was going to say? I've stopped even trying. You know, do my job, clock out at the end of the day - usually a long day fixing up someone else's messes -and I go home. Nobody takes me seriously."

Charlie shrugged. "You get used to it after a while."

She had a point. She certainly didn't look like someone to be taken seriously. Unless you were looking for a seriously fun time.

"Why would I give information to someone who isn't taken seriously?" Anakin asked.

"Because they'd know I'd never dare make up something and say it came from you," Charlie said. "At least the right people wouldn't. The rest... well, plausible deniability."
