fandomhigh as usual for consistency, however, detention activites are occurring in town at the Town Hall.]

Lorelai is waiting in the foyer of the town hall promptly at 8am. She's looking longingly at the coffee and doughnuts spread that Luke thoughtfully provided while sipping her herbal tea and eating a banana.

She checks names off a clipboard as people arrive.

"Okay gang. This detention can be as easy or as hard as you make it," she says once everyone has arrived. "If you put a little effort in to getting the work done, you can be out of here in more than enough time to enjoy the prom. If you don't, well, you're only hurting yourself."

Angel facepalmed. "Oh God. She'll stake me. I don't mean to obsess. Honest! I just - what was I supposed to do? I mean Jaye."

"Don't think about her either!" Bel said, wishing he had a newspaper to roll up.

"I didn't think I'd react that strongly," Angel said. "Hell, Veronica's apparently fine and dandy about it."

"How do you know?" Bel asked. "Have you talked to her about Jaye?"

Long pause.

"...not as such."

"Given your track record of clear communication," Bel pointed out, "not as such probably means not at all."

"It's Veronica," Angel said. "Besides, she's working radio now. She's bound to know, right?"

"If you keep flailing around the objects of your crushes, everyone is bound to know," Bel said.

"You'd think after years of stoic I'd be better at this."

"It's not that hard," Bel insisted. "Even I could do it if I needed to."

"You don't have feelings for L - you-know-who."

"I know, but if I did have feelings for someone like that," Bel said. "But not you-know-who." He made a face.

"I'm new at this!" Angel said. "It wasn't that long ago I wasn't around anybody, let alone having feelings for them."

"You'd better learn quickly then," Bel warned, "or Callisto is going to stake you."

"You know people were a lot easier to deal with when I avoided them."

"I'm still thinking you need to go with the avoidance theory again," Bel said. "Just don't make it so obvious this time, maybe it will work."

"I wanna keep an eye on him tonight though," Angel said. "Not just because of the pantsless thing."

"Pantless? What? And why?" Bel said. "That's not a good idea."

"Veronica says it's a thing," Angel shrugged, as though not like he got it either. "And I don't know if he's okay yet, you know? I'm worried."

"Why don't you let me keep an eye on him then?" Bel said. "The last thing you need to be doing is watching him. Especially with Callisto right there with you."

"I guess," Angel said. But he didn't look happy about it.

"You need to avoid any temptation," Bel said helpfully.

"This is going to be a hell of a lot easier once I'm back in LA," Angel said.

"If you have enough self-control to keep Angelus under control, you can make it until then," Bel said encouragingly.

"Right," Angel said. He nodded, his shoulders relaxing by a hair. "You're right. I can do this. Thanks, Bel."
