Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

With classes starting up in a few days, it was time to welcome in the new semester in the best way possible--with warm, tasty food and thankfully decent weather. The sun was shining and it was just warm enough to suggest that spring might really be around the corner. If nothing else, it was pre-gaming for whatever New Year's Eve shenanigans might happen later!

Amicia had walked, and walked, and walked, waiting for that blissful moment of tiredness where her mind would go quiet and she could have, perhaps, a passing chance of sleeping. And yet, she barely noticed as the mountains flattened and faded, nor did she take much note of the cobbled city streets and stairways she found herself on. It all looked just familiar enough, and she did not care.

Until she found herself in the middle of– what was it? A celebration? It was the sight of people themselves that gave her pause.

Oh. A city. Of course, thought the girl with the short-clipped hair in her warm leathers. Of course there are people.

TJ had hurried back to Fandom, because she had a sibling! Who hopefully would not be another family member.

It wasn't hard to find the right person, though, given it was the only one she didn't recognize. "Amicia?" she asked, looking as friendly as possible.

The voice activated that crackle of energy she couldn’t shake, and Amicia spun halfway towards the newcomer, blinking wildly at– blue-skinned? Pointy ears?

Clare was back from her trip home to Derry because it was better to be here than involved in whatever Michelle's New Year's Eve plans would be and she almost ran straight into the unfamiliar girl.

"Oh! I'm so sorry!"

Far be it from Graham and Triumph to miss a picnic! So when Graham wasn't riding in on his trusty steed to make the rounds and say hello to people and generally appreciate the attention Triumph was sure to garner, they were both getting plenty of food and finding a nice spot to sit and enjoy it.

The break back home had been nice but Guillermo was looking forward to the new semester and he was glad he had made it back in time for the welcome picnic, he helped himself to a massive plate of food and found a spot to sit and watch what was happening around him.

Turned out that Guillermo himself wasn't the only one glad that he'd made it back in time for the welcome picnic, and as soon as Graham saw him, he was definitely redirecting Triumph over his way.

"Hi!" He gave a big wave of his hand as he approached, feeling maybe a slight bit of awkwardness, because they hadn't really...talked much since, well.... "Welcome back! Did you have a good trip back home?"

Summer definitely had to spend way too much time getting ready for what was essentially just New Years in a small local bar, but that didn't mean she couldn't carve out a little bit of time to head on over to the school lawn to hit up the picnic, scope out any new faces, and see what was up, really.

Connor was definitely at the picnic! Free food? Yes, please. He was also anxious to see if Cutter was around and also to see who might be around for classes and whatnot. Was he excited and also a little nervous about his first time teaching? Yes, yes he was! So why not distract himself with some food and drink?

Cutter’s portal back to Fandom had been that morning and he hadn’t quite realised it was the Welcome Picnic. Since he was teaching two classes that semester, he figured it wouldn’t hurt to head down for a while and he had a look to see if Connor was there.

Even if swinging by the welcome picnic wasn't practically tradition (and one that involved free food, and plenty of it, no less!), Amaya figured the timing might help her out if she decided to skip out on any New Years festivities. For reasons. She was still kind of on the fence about it, especially since she'd already pushed at a lot of her boundaries these last few months...

But oh, look! Undefined meat of some sort on a stick! Don't mind if she did. A little food for thought, as it were, as she idly tried distracting herself with the crowd.

Kurt had gotten a portal back early that morning. It had been a lot of running around seeing everyone and as much as he hated having to leave, he was eggar to see his friends again and get ready for the next set of classes he would be taking. And so after porting over to the dorms to drop his bags off, he headed over to the picnic and was soon helping himself to a big plate of food.

Dwight was at the picnic with a very happy pup in tow. The warmer weather meant Snoopy was bound and determined to make the most of it and spend as much time as possible outdoors. Dwight, meanwhile, was dong some people watching and grabbing some food, which he was of course sharing with the energetic pup once they found a spot to sit at the edge of the picnic area.

"Dwight." Amaya, at one point, wandered over to offer both man and pup a nod. "Snoopy. Good to see you. Happy new semester, and all that."

This last week had been a rather busy one back home for Sidon, with a few lizalfo problems to deal with and a few new hatchlings to celebrate, and a perhaps somewhat worrisome cold that seemed to strike his father. When a Zors the size of a large house was sniffling and sneezing, you'd better believe it was a problem for the whole community!

But the lizalfos were defeated, the hatchlings welcomed, and King Dorephan was on the mend, just in time for Sidon to make it back to the island for the welcome picnic and New Years!

"Fantastic!" he declared, for the picnic, for the timing, for the new year....for everything, really!

Like her first welcome picnic, Vi was wearing clothes she'd liberated from Steph's washing and eating her way through a picnic table.

And having absolutely no thoughts or feelings about the fact she'd been here just shy of a year or anything that had or hadn't happened in that time. At all.

Rosa was mostly here out of obligation and because it could sometimes be fun watching newbies gawk, but she brought the dog for an extra level of protection against socializing.

Which, considering how cute Anna Pavlova was, might actually be counterproductive, but if they didn't know already, it would deter people from bothering her in the future if they cared even a little about their shoes.

Margo arrived with a pitcher of coffee, wearing sunglasses and a long, fuzzy, and fashionable coat, and immediately parked her ass somewhere at a table to people-watch.

She was planning to keep this as chill as possible.

The welcome picnic was definitely a good excuse to get out and enjoy some fresh air, and the food, while sometimes a bit underwhelming, very rarely disappointed for what it was, so Ignis was glad to make an appearance. It was easy enough, too, to find a nice, quieter spot, where he would mostly just listen for familiar voices, be there should anyone need to seek him out again, and just try to get himself adapted to the mindset of an instructor again.

Stark wasn't teaching at the school this time but this was always a good opportunity to get outside and find some free food. And look for familiar, or unfamiliar, faces.

So he found some food and a place to sit and enjoy the fact that it wasn't freezing cold or snowing. For the moment.

After taking far too long going over the food offerings with Iggy, Gladio could finally focus on loading up his own plate with an array that would test the durability of his plate before going to go join him at a table.

One of them needed to be in charge of people-watching, after all. Probably should be him.

It was odd to think this might be the last chance Belle had to attend one of these picnics. It was also odd to think she had been here two full years now and that it felt very much like home at times.

She made herself a plate and started to walk around the picnic as she looked for friendly (or not-so-friendly) faces.

Prompto was pretty sure he'd be having a pretty quiet and low-key ringing in of the New Year, so he definitely wanted to make sure to make it to the welcome picnic, especially to help him get back into the mindset of teaching again, which was just kind of wild, but he was definitely excited to jump back into that saddle.

Plus, free food when your were really watching a budget and your fiancée was eating for two? Definitely taking advantage of that. He was honestly wondering how many leftovers he could get away with spiriting away, they could be set for food for most of the week, if he was successful...

Liz did enjoy the welcome picnics and she was definitely taking advantage of the free food judging by how full her plate was as she made her way over to Prompto, “hi,” she smiled brightly up at him, “anything exciting been happening?”

Gray was back to like...90% of his usual bounciness, which meant the difference was probably negligible to the average eye, especially since it was a toss-up whether he was flitting around the picnic trying to find his friends and keeping an eye out for new kids or sound asleep in a random location and awkward position at any given point in time.
