Library, Thursday 12/29

There were no ballpits today in the library. In fact there was nothing at all out of place aside from an overstuffed armchair that had been there on previous occasions.

Without anything odd to deal with Belle really had no choice but to curl up in that armchair with a book. She'd be available if anyone needed her but that seemed unlikely.

"I most surely will!" Graham promised,with a small bow and a slight doffing of his hat. "But first! The real important question at hand: which pie wouldst the lady liketh to enjoy today? We've got boisenberry, pecan, lemon meringue, and the ever classic apple!"

"Well," Belle said, "what would the knight-in-training recommend? They all sound tempting and I did miss lunch entirely. Do you have a favorite? Or perhaps two favorites?"

"I have about seven favorites," Graham admitted, his grin just a little bit sheepish, but also not really, because who could blame him for not really being able to pick just one favorite? "But today, I gotta admit, I've been really digging on those boisenberries. Not too boisen, just the right level of berry, too."

Belle certainly couldn't blame him for that!

"I don't believe I've ever had that," she said thoughtfully. "It would be a shame not to after such a recommendation."

"Then boisenberry it is!" Graham declared, before taking a moment to very dramatically reach into the depths of his cloak. His eyes squinted a little, his tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth a little in concentration as he rummage through his pocket, and then...

"Ah-ha!

"Wait, no," he deflated a little as the item he held pit was not actually a pie. "That's just a frisbee. Hold on."

The frisbee and hand both went back into the cloak. "Now where did I--" he murmured, then blinked. "Oh, right! I put it on the other side!"

A moment to switch, and then barely a moment to find it before he tried again.

"Tah-daaah!"

This time, he actually did produce the pie, and held it up in victory a moment before dipping into a bow to offer it over to Belle.

"Your pie awaits, my lady!"

"How many things can you carry in that cloak?" Belle asked, impressed. "It never looks as if there's anything in it at all! Will you share some pie with me, or have you had enough for the day?"

"I don't think there is such a thing as enough pie," Graham noted, grinning proudly as he now also managed to produce two forks from inside his cloak and handed one over to Belle, as well. "I'd love to share some! And it's great, isn't it, this cloak? I've told you about it, right? That my mom made it for me, so I'd always have somewhere to put my stuff when I'm out adventuring! She always said the real magic is how it can still manage to fit so much, even with all the love she already put into it!"

Somehow Belle had suspected Graham's response would be something along those lines.

"You've come prepared with cutlery even. Why thank you, good sir. Your mother must be very talented to have made such a cloak."

"Oh, she's amazing with a needle!" Graham enthused. "She always joked how she and my dad both knew their way around sharp things. I learned nearly everything I know about sewing from her, though I'm not nearly as good. Maybe with time and practice, though, I could get there!"

"Was your father a knight?" Belle asked, brandishing her fork at the pie. "Or perhaps a chef? They both have blades, after all."

"They do both have blades," Graham agreed, "but Dad was definitely no chef! I inherited by own cooking skills from him, to be sure! He was a knight, though. As was his father before him, and his father before him!"

And, yes, he may have dropped this one on someone else earlier this week,but, since he was quite convinced it never actually got old...

"Bet you can't guess what his father before him was."

"Was he a knight as well?" Belle asked, very curious now.

"Nope!" Graham chirped happily. "He was a dentist! But, either way you look at it, I still come from a long line of protecting crowns."

Never. Got. Old!

Belle burst into delighted laughter at that.

"Graham! That was terrible!" Clearly she thought exactly the opposite.

And Graham couldn't have asked for a better reaction than that, beaming proudly for a moment before chuckling a little himself.

"It's not terrible," he said, "it's true! He really was! And I guess, if I don't make it as a knight, I can probably start looking at dentist schools instead. Could be a career I could really sink my teeth into. Could be really ful-filling."

Oh, no. Now look what you've started, Belle.

Belle giggled again, shaking her head.

"Would you offer biting commentary?" she ventured.

Oooh, that was a good one.

"Only," said Graham, "if something was really gnawing on my mind."

"I'm glad you came to visit today Graham," Belle told him, eyes sparkling. "You've given me a chance to brush up on my wordplay."

"I'm glad I did, too," said Graham, looking terribly pleased and tickled. "Missing out on this conversation would have truly been a great floss."

"And you brought such a toothsome snack."

Not Belle's finest effort but she was running out of mouth related puns.
