Library - Friday

Jo was rather nervous about the picnic this afternoon for Parents Weekend, Deirdre had told her that she would try and visit for Parents Weekend so she wanted to go down and see if she had in fact been able to come.

She knew she should still do her library shift though even though she was finding it very hard to focus that day, she tried to keep herself busy with her homework from class once she had finished reshelving the books that she needed to put away but she found her attention kept drifting.

Libby had mentioned the library to Ashara, so she had to come and visit it. She wasn't as much a nerd as some, but she could still appreciate a good library.

She still dropped her jaw when she came in. "Are these all actual paper books?"

Even though Jo had been here for a year now she still found herself staring at Ashara before she realised what she was doing and focused on the question she was asking.

“Oh, ye…yes they are,” she stammered, “was there something I could …um ….help you find?”

"I don't even know!" Ashara was equally wide-eyed. "I don't think I've ever seen so many old books in one place. What sorts of subjects do they cover?"

“Oh what kind of books do you have?” Jo couldn’t imagine books being anything other than paper.

“We have all sorts of books here,” Jo added, “and a special collections but I’m not allowed to go back there it’s restricted but the main part of the library has just about every genre you can think of,”

"Holobooks, mostly," Ashara said. "Paper's so fragile." She reached out to the nearest shelf and ran a hand over the books carefully.

"What's special collections? Why aren't you allowed back there?" Ashara had always had a knack for getting into trouble.

"What are holobooks?" Jo asked, rather intrigued, she wasn't familiar with the term.

Then she paused as she glanced in the direction towards special collections, she wasn't overly familiar with what it was just that she couldn't go back there without permission.

"They're full of dangerous books, a lot of them are magical," Jo said in a hushed voice, "you can only access them with permission from the librarian,"

"Electronic books stored in holographic form," Ashara answered. "Ah, that makes sense. We've got a similar space in ours. Limited access." Which definitely meant she was interested in these, but she also knew to leave well enough alone without someone who knew what they were doing.

"Oh, I've never heard of anything like that before," Jo admitted, she still hadn't discovered what ebooks were yet, "I started working in the library last year, "it's been rather fascinating seeing how many different books there are, even though sometimes they keep moving around and I can't keep track of where the genres end up," she admitted.
