Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 28, Period 1, 04.20.06

[OOC: Continuing "Raid Wiki For Info" Week! Also, I've finally updated the Class Info Post.]

"Hello, students! Today we're discussing two opposing models of Justice. But first, a reminder: there's only a week of classes left!"

"Okay, the two models are the Conflict Model and the Consensus Model. The Conflict Model states that the organizations in the Justice System should - and perhaps do! - come into contention with each other. For example, police are determined to put people in prison and even have clearance rates. Similar stories with the prosecutors. But prison officials may be concerned wiith overcrowding and do what they can to limit their numbers. Perhaps they even let criminals out more easily."

"Another example would be the way that police can be so determined to arrest superheroes sometimes. Or the courts with their fines for public destruction. It's all conflict. Competition, even, to see which wheel on the Tricycle of Justice is the best."

"On the other end of the theoretical teeter totter is the Consensus Model. It says that the Justice System should - and perhaps does! - work together and cooperate. The police and courts work together to send bad people to prison. The prisons hold the bad people. Superheroes assist where they can. The important thing is that, egads, we're on a tricycle and we're having fun! Look at us zoom down this hill! Wheee!"

"Some people have speculated that we shoot for Consensus but Conflict is our reality. My question for you is what do you think about the whole thing? Consensus? Conflict? Are we one? Are we the other? Is one better? What are we doing with our shiny, red tricycle?"

"Please discuss!"

Stare. Stare stare stare. Deep reliance on years of stoicism because this was Veronica of all people which meant that not only did she have a high likelihood of picking up on a flail, but that she had about a thousand legitimate reasons to kick his ass if she figured out why.

Moment of wallowing in intense feelings of guilt.

Tossing back of a note.

No.

Veronica sighed.

And, being completely oblivious to Angel's issues, sent another note.

Can you do me a favor? Try to make him talk about his feelings? You're one of the only people here that he trusts. I need to know that he's okay and not going to do anything stupid.

Oh good. Because Angel had been thinking to himself that it'd really been a while since he'd felt the kind of crushing guilt that normally only came during the first few weeks of having the soul slapped into him. It was nice. He'd almost missed it.

Angel kept his face turned away from Veronica as he wrote, then tossed back.

I can try.

Veronica tried to catch Angel's eye so she could give him an appreciative smile.

Thanks, it means a lot to me. Do you know if he's planning to go to prom? I hope he doesn't show up without pants.

Angel really hoped the facepalm this created came off as him being tired and not him attempting to shove a newly created mental image out of his brain by physical force if necessary.

He didn't want to know. He didn't want to know. He very sternly told himself he did not want to know.

The note came back:

Does he do that often?

The pen wrote that totally on its own. That was Angel's story and he was sticking to it.

Veronica interpreted the facepalm as a 'Gee, I hope I don't have to wrangle a half-naked Logan at prom, cause that would kinda ruin my night' facepalm.

Just once. And in his defense, it was an 80s dance so he was going for that Tom Cruise in Risky Business thing. But he was pretty drunk, too, and had just found out something kind of bad. Hence, my concerns.

Logan. Logan with no pants. Logan with no pants yet wearing a shirt. Logan possibly wearing his shirt.

Good to know that having a soul meant Angel hadn't lost his sense of sadism, even if currently he was apparently using it on himself.

It was a long moment of rubbing his eyes - surely vamp strength meant he could render himself blind on a physical and mental level, no? - before he was able to write back.

Yeah, that would be bad.

We're both really lucky to have you as a friend. You remember how you promised to always watch out for me? I hope you'll do the same for Logan.

Why did pieces of wood not fly through the air and stake you when you needed them to? This was Fandom High. If the toilets could literally run the pencils could turn to homicidal rage. It wasn't that unreasonable, really.

The page stayed blank for a long time before Angel managed to write a reply. It wasn't a reply he was particularly proud of, considering the whole 'lie with the truth' aspect, but on the other hand he didn't have to look at himself in a mirror. Plus he'd lost the right to pride about this a long time ago.

I just want to make sure the two of you don't get hurt.

That's what makes you a good person. I'm just sad that we won't get to do that dinner & movie double date now.

Oh hey, this one had all kinds of levels of honesty to it.

Me too.

Veronica wasn't smirking. Why would you think she was?

Especially since me and Cal were planning to bribe you guys into kissing for us since Logan was sick for the big kissy event a few weeks ago.

Mental. Images. Everywhere.

Angel's reply, when it finally came back, was both crumpled and contained the crossed out bits.

That would be

I don't think

Probably shouldn't

Do you have a pencil I could borrow?

Re: Talk, Take Notes, Pass Notes, Etc. [Class 28]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Veronica assumed that Angel's crossed out bits were in reference to seeing her and Cal kiss again.

She dug through her bag for a minute and came up with a mechanical pencil, which she handed to Angel with the note.

I also have a couple extra pens if you need one.

Though she wasn't sure why Angel needed a writing implement. His seemed to be working just fine.

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Angel sighed when the pencil she gave him was decidedly non-wooden. Of course now he had to come up with a reason why he'd asked to borrow it. He lamely drew a stake in his class notes. Then he drew a stick figure that might roughly look like himself being impaled by said stake. Then, because apparently today he was writing out all of his unconscious thoughts, he added in a few captions of "Stupid stupid STUPID" around his stick-figure self.

He then handed the pencil back, complete with a note written on a fresh sheet of paper, again not making any eye contact.

Thanks.

Veronica wished she was close enough to see what Angel had drawn, but, alas, she wasn't.

So she shrugged, put the pencil away and sent back:

Anytime. That's what friends are for.

And she really kind of wished Angel would look at her so she could smile at him.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Veronica exclaimed when she saw the slip.

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And there was the guilt again. Eye contact? Not happening. Head-desking? Possibly.

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-04-20 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Angel read the slip.

Yeah, that was about his luck lately.

He resumed head desking.
