Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"Okay, but you might be sorry. I'm delightful." She held a smile for half a second then grinned. "I'm sorry, I can't say that with a straight face. Actually my Aunties would tell you I'm a terrible pain who doesn't know when to stop, so you probably have thr right idea."

Marc wondered if he or Steven knew enough teachers at the school to suggest maybe making sure this kid stuck to decaf while she was here. Out loud he said, "Well there's plenty of delightful to go around."

You know, at the picnic. With people her own age. And energy level.

She bent over with her hands on her knees and just chortled. "Oh, I do like you," she managed. "You actually are delightful."

Charlie straightened up, wiping at her eyes with her left hand and offered her right. "Charlie Gale, delighted to meet you."

She was so lucky he wasn't as much of an asshole to kids as to adults. He shook. "Marc Spector. No you aren't."

Not being as much of an asshole didn't mean being less honest.

"I'm not so sure about that. Good handshake by the way."

"Thanks, I practice," Marc replied, his expression as stoic as ever.

"I knew it," Charlie said. "Advanced degree or just naturally talented?"

"Natural talent," Marc replied. You know, like how personable he was.

"And what other things are you naturally talented in?" Charlie asked, potentially sliding over the line and then bringing it right back to the safe side with, "baseball cap wearing, right? Rarely have I seen one worn so masterfully."

"Making friends," Marc replied. Because again: kid. He wasn't going to give his usual answer here, which was killing people.

"I think that's the first lie you've told me," Charlie said lightly. "But you might find yourself stuck with friends you don't anticipate. I think you'd be a very loyal friend."

Or not. Who fucking knew what kind of classes they gave teens in this place.

"I stand by the friend comment though. Loyal."

"I don't have friends," Marc told her. Ignore the people who were exceptions to that statement. Not that Charlie would know about them.

"I think you'd make a great friend," she said. Was she considering ...? Maybe.

Something told him this kid would go nuts for an accent.

"He works at the Museum," Marc told her. Deliberately inflicting this kid on Steven? Maybe.
