Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"I think that's the first lie you've told me," Charlie said lightly. "But you might find yourself stuck with friends you don't anticipate. I think you'd be a very loyal friend."

"Not a lie if it's sarcasm," Marc said. "They'll teach you that in school."

Or not. Who fucking knew what kind of classes they gave teens in this place.

"Sarcasm, right," She nodded wisely. "Never heard of it." Right...

"I stand by the friend comment though. Loyal."

"I don't have friends," Marc told her. Ignore the people who were exceptions to that statement. Not that Charlie would know about them.

She showed him two fingers. A peace sign or something else.

"I think you'd make a great friend," she said. Was she considering ...? Maybe.

"Lucky you're not the only one here who's delusional," Marc told her.

Ignore how he considered himself one of those people.

"It will probably not come as any surprise to you to know that's not the first time I've heard that." Auntie Gwen was particularly fond of saying that.

"That you're surrounded by crazy people?" Marc asked.

"That I'm delusional," she clarified. "I'm not, though. I'm just hopeful and determined."

"You and Steven will get along great," Marc said. Not that she'd know what that meant, of course.

"One of your non-friends?" Charlie asked innocently.

"Yes," Marc said, with an obvious smugness since hey: not untrue. "You'll love him. He's British."

Something told him this kid would go nuts for an accent.

"Wonderful, I'm Canadian," she said. "You'll have to introduce me sometime."

"He works at the Museum," Marc told her. Deliberately inflicting this kid on Steven? Maybe.

Charlie made a little face. "A museum? A museum of what?"

Marc quirked his eyebrows up at that. Only he was allowed to tell Steven museums were boring, thank you.

Even so, he said, "Random island shit."

Look it wasn't like he spent a lot of time there.

She hadn't told this Steven anything.

"Island shit? Like from Fandom?" She brightened up. "Now that could be interesting!"

Marc had to take a second to confirm Steven's memories on that one. "...yes."

As in yes, island shit from Fandom.

"Okay," she said nodding. "I'll have to check it out. And your British friend too."

"Feel free to tell him I said hi," Marc said. Because in no way was he warning Steven about this one.

"I will. I'll tell him his handsome but grumpy non-friend said hello. And decided to inflict me on him." Charlie smirked a little herself.

"He will actually know who that is," Marc told her. Because spot on description, really.

"It's been a pleasure, Marc," Charlie said. "Not sure you can say the same, but I grow on people. Trust me."

Did that mean he'd be seeing her again? Probably.

Especially after she met Steven.

"I don't," Marc assured her, more than fine for her moving on to... whatever it was she was doing next.

Charlie laughed and, giving in to that impish side of her, blew him a kiss before dancing off.
