Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"It wasn't before now," Jane admitted. "2022. I was... not in existence then back home."

Normal. Things.

"It was a whole thing."

"Sounds like it," Anakin said after an awkward pause. "How did you...rejoin existence?"

Please don't say cloning. He'd had a very long morning already.

"A reality warping glove," Jane said with an expression that said she knew how nuts it was.

"Huh," said Anakin. There had not been enough coffee today. "So--" he waved his hand, "--poof, you were back?"

"Kind of? I was doing a lecture on astrophysics and I just--" she mimicked a 'poof' motion. "--and five years later, I was back."

Almost like it was a dumb plot point for needless drama.

"Was anyone still waiting on the lecture?" Anakin asked.

"Some of the students who were also poofed out of existence for that time," she replied.

"Only some?" Anakin asked. "The rest just never heard the end?"

"Right," Jane said like he got it. "I hope they at least picked up my research on the lecture while I was gone."

Gone. Yeeeep.

"Well, they might have had other things to immediately worry about if their teacher just...disappeared...like that, but I'm sure they came back to it eventually."

Sure they did.

"What are you teaching here?"

Jane took a deep breath at that.

"Beginner's Guide to Heroism. I think my friend--" Valkyrie was laughing somewhere in New Asgard. "--decided it for me."

Anakin's smile looked less strained at that. "It happens more than we'd like," he admitted. "I taught Drama last semester. I have absolutely no expertise in drama."

Other than wearing a cape, stomping around dramatically, and his entire vibe.

"I'm hoping to learn about it," she admitted with an amused little smile. "Picked up this hammer, so I might as well really take up the whole mantle of The Mighty Thor."

Did she need to do a mock dramatic voice for the title? Yes, she absolutely did.

"The Mighty Thor?" Anakin repeated. "We've had a Thor here before. I think he taught microwaving food."

"He did like to try out our 'quaint, Midgardian technology'," she confided. "He's... well, it's a sort of complicated thing. But maybe that's how Valkyrie knew about this place to get me a job."

"So Thor is like a title, then?" Anakin guessed.

"That's also a little complicated," Jane replied, making a face. "So, this hammer."

Look at it twirl in her hand.

"It has a spell on it that anyone worthy of the name and powers of Thor can use it. And it apparently it picked me."

She too was kind of shocked.

"Congratulations, then," Anakin said, smiling. "What are the powers of Thor?"

Probably not related to microwaving things?

"I'm really strong," she said, waving the hammer a little too easily. "And I can kind of fly. And lightning. I grew almost a whole foot."

Wasn't it just the most exciting thing?

Also, there were other changes that didn't need to be mentioned. Because they were a real downer.

Padmé would've been just as thrilled about the height thing, and that smile was eerily similar.

"What does 'kind of fly' mean?" Anakin asked. "I can fly in a spaceship."

"A space ship?" Don't get distracted by that fun fact, Jane. She took a breath to focus back on the question. "Watch."

She took a step back to give herself some space and toss the hammer down to snag the leather strap at the end of the handle in mid-air to start spinning it.

And spinning it.

And spinning it until it was a blur of speed that pulled her up into the air and out of sight at near lightning speed.

"Wizard," Anakin murmured under his breath, holding his hand up over his eyes to watch her go.

After a moment or two, she came back down, landing with some force in a very dramatic fashion.

Then beamed and did a 'did you see that?' look and hand gesture at Anakin. "It's still so cool to do."

That smile was going to be a problem. Anakin loved that smile. "I like the landing."

He was something of an aficionado of dramatic entrances.

"It wasn't too much? I'm still figuring this whole thing out."

Also it was less dramatic than earlier.
