Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the new fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island!

"A space ship?" Don't get distracted by that fun fact, Jane. She took a breath to focus back on the question. "Watch."

She took a step back to give herself some space and toss the hammer down to snag the leather strap at the end of the handle in mid-air to start spinning it.

And spinning it.

And spinning it until it was a blur of speed that pulled her up into the air and out of sight at near lightning speed.

"Wizard," Anakin murmured under his breath, holding his hand up over his eyes to watch her go.

After a moment or two, she came back down, landing with some force in a very dramatic fashion.

Then beamed and did a 'did you see that?' look and hand gesture at Anakin. "It's still so cool to do."

That smile was going to be a problem. Anakin loved that smile. "I like the landing."

He was something of an aficionado of dramatic entrances.

"It wasn't too much? I'm still figuring this whole thing out."

Also it was less dramatic than earlier.

The lightning would've brought up some definitely less fuzzy feelings for Anakin.

"It's amazing. Don't be shy about being amazing," Anakin said.

That was fair at least.

"You sound like one of my friends from back home," she replied with a bit of an 'aw shucks' smile. She really ought to call Darcy before news of a female Thor hit. "I'm much more confident about science, I promise you. I'm sort of learning the ropes along with my class, I think."

"Well, if you need heroes, you could probably throw that hammer of yours around here and--" kill one, "--hit a couple," Anakin said. "Depending on what your definition of hero is."

"I did run into one from home! Not that I knew her before, but she's a friend of a friend." Oh yeah, just what Wanda needed. An puppy.

Anakin gave her an encouraging smile. "It's always nice to have a familiar face."

Unless it was your dead wife's. Cough.

Look, it was a perfectly normal thing. She met a Thor doppelganger too!

"But you'll be around if I have questions? Or need to stress over lesson plans. And grading. Oh god, what's the grading scale here?"

"The grading scale is...fluid," Anakin said with another smile. "You'll settle in quickly, but I'm around. I'm in the office with 'Dean of Students' on the door."

"And you still teach?" Look, Jane. This wasn't a normal school, this was a cool school.

Anakin nodded. "I teach diplomacy this term. I have experience from my old job."

"You were a diplomat with a space ship?" Oh yeah, bringing it back around to the space ship.

"We're called Jedi," Anakin said with a little smile. "It explains the whole--" he gestured to his Jedi robes, "--look. Or it does to beings from my galaxy."

"I'm still getting used to that part of it." As she'd only had it explained as a reality and not just a theory today. But she was rolling with those punches admirably. "What sort of... reality? Do you come from?"

"One where space flight is commonplace," Anakin said. "We inhabit a vast galaxy with many trillions of different life forms. The Jedi are the guardians of peace for the galaxy and have been for thousands of generations." He smiled quickly. "I came here as a student years ago to learn about this new universe and I've stayed to teach."

Well. More or less.

More or less, Anakin? Really?

"That nice of a place, huh?"

"It's fascinating here," Anakin said. "It's an interdimensional nexus and we get students and teachers from everywhere and almost any time. I enjoy the challenge."

"Well, I'll be right there with you on enjoying the challenge." Or just not giving up on a fight if she could help it.

"It was a pleasure--" sure, he'd go with that because 'deeply confusing mindfuck' was probably a lot to drop on her, "to meet you, Jane Foster. May I check on you to see how your first class went?"

Make sure she didn't disappear halfway through, etc., etc.

Would this end in stalking from afar? Would it, Anakin?

"That would be nice of you, teaching buddy," she replied, with a bit of joking solemness for the 'teaching buddy' title. "And it was also nice to meet you too, Anakin Skywalker."

And he was suddenly nine years old back in a junkyard on Tatooine and wondering if the girl in front of him was an actual angel.

"I'm a person and my name is Anakin--"

He gave Jane a slightly pained smile and all but scurried off.
