Library, Thursday 8/4

Luckily the table that Tahani dropped on her yesterday when Ms. Smith suddenly became a squirrel (and why did such things keep happening with such frequency?) had not been terribly heavy. Still, Belle was not up for heavy lifting today so she was shelving paperbacks. Of course, the rather large amount of paperbacks to be shelved were all from the romance section. Some of them were quite risqué. Obviously she needed to flip through a few to familiarize herself with that section of the library.

Belle had no other reason to be so engrossed in the books today. She certainly wasn't remembering any weekend events. Nor was she occasionally glancing at the door in case anyone in particular walked in.

Why there was a very expectant looking squirrel with a small bag of popcorn perched on top of one of the shelves she had no idea.

Who is not blushing when reading, how dare you.

Five was doing just fine after the weekend. He smoothed his suit jacket one more time for good measure before stepping into the library.

If nothing, he was always ready to face this head on.

Belle was also totally fine. Obviously. Not blushing while reading, certainly not blushing even more and doing a very good impression of a frightened animal when Five walked in to the library.

"Oh. Hello."

"Belle," he said with a stiff little nod.

One might think they would be past being uncomfortable in these situations after accidentally being naked in front of each other, and dating each other and Harry one weekend and all waking up together. One would be wrong.

"May I help you with something?" There. Businesslike. With blushing. That was the way to deal with this.

"I could get a book," he said, definitely floundering for a moment on why he was even there.

"We have plenty," Belle said, trying not to look at the cart full of romance novels off to the side and failing utterly at doing so.

"Did you have something in mind?"

Maybe they could just never speak of this weekend ever again?

"Science," he settled on after giving the romance novels a disapproving look. "Science is good."

"Oh, of course. More time travel?" Belle asked before thinking better of it and blushing yet again.

Time travel was a bad subject. She shouldn't have mentioned that. That veered far too close to the weekend.

"Or are you researching something new?"

"Yes," he said loudly at the same time as her correction. Ugh, this was all awkward and terrible. Give him something to argue about.

It was extremely awkward and terrible (though it had been quite the opposite at the time).

"Yes time travel? You haven't lost your family again?"

Look, it had been a few days. Things happened.

"No, they're still here." For now. "But more research can't hurt."

Awkwardness wasn't actual harm at least.

"I suppose not," Belle allowed. "I'm glad they aren't lost again. Time travel ought to be this way." She came out from behind the desk, leaving her book behind, and being very careful not to come too close to Five.

"Unless it's moved. Things do change often around here."

"Because this place is insufferable." That comment was mostly about the weekend, really.

"Oh, it's not all bad," Belle said. Maybe out of habit because bickering was what they did.

Or maybe talking about the weekend which had been very enjoyable at the time.

At the time!

"It tends to be," he said, relaxing into the bickering.

It had been a very good time!

"You were more content as a cat than you have been for nearly all of our acquaintance," Belle pointed out. And then had immediate regrets because she knew quite well when he had been more content.

Which was definitely why he got a little eye twitch at that comment, Belle. Look at the aneurysm you're giving him!

Belle couldn't see the eye twitch because she had very quickly turned her attention to the bookshelves. While still blushing.

"Are we looking for something specific?"

"No. Nothing in particular," he said, squinting at her suspiciously.

"That does make it harder to find something useful," Belle pointed out. "Though I'm sure you know that."

Obviously he was just trying to irritate her!

"Perhaps I ought to leave you to your own devices." And go back to ~~fantasizing~~ reading inappropriate materials.

Still waiting for the day I don't wake up exhausted.
