"Good afternoon," Hannibal greeted them all when they arrived at Portalocity. "We're heading to Morocco today. It's in Africa, the continent south of the one we last went to, at the northern end."

He led them through the portal and into a bustling street surrounded by stalls. "Marrakech, Morocco," he explained. "Morocco has been a hub of trade for centuries, and its spices and cuisine reflect that. Mediterranean and Arabic cuisines are the strongest influences, and olive oil, fruits, grains, and a number of meats, including lamb, are common."

He led them further down the street. "Today we will be eating at Dar Cherifa, a restaurant meant as a calm oasis in the midst of the souks - the markets. It features a fairly traditional and varied menu. I will order a number of things for us, and you're welcome to order your own as well."

He nodded at the waiter as they were led to their table. "The predominant languages here are Arabic and Berber, but most people will also speak French, and some will know Spanish or English. Please don't hesitate to ask should you have any questions."

Moroccan cuisine is considered one of the best in the world; enjoy it!

Liz had never tried Moroccan so she was looking over what options were available and what choices would be safe for her to eat.

"Anything here, bar the cocktails, should be fine," Hannibal told her. "Have you had lamb before?"

Liz nodded, “I have but it’s not something I’ve eaten a lot,” she told him.

"That and the beef are both good," he said, passing her the lamb. "Protein is important. And the walnuts in the lamb are healthy, too."

Liz nodded as she took the lamb to try, “I’ll try both the lamb and beef,” she said, “I’m trying to be good about eating healthily,” she added.

Even if she had been eating a lot of soft pretzels recently.

"Have you begun having odd cravings?" Hannibal asked. He was rather looking forward to coming up with odd recipes to satisfy them.

“I think so, even though I don’t know if it’s really odd yet?” Liz admitted, “I’ve started eating a lot of soft pretzels, even though it was kind of an accident how I got introduced to them,”

"Soft pretzels? Not a traditional pregnancy food so far as I'm aware, but I'll find a recipe," Hannibal said. "How were you introduced to them by accident?"

It was here that Liz looked a little guilty, “I went by the Trooper Station on Friday, I thought they should know about the pregnancy and that there could be problems with my powers and I ended up confessing everything to Watts in the process,” she paused, “I ended up crying and he gave me his handkerchief that had the pretzel in it, I don’t think he intended to give it to me,”

There was another pause, “I thought he was going to arrest me,” she admitted.

Jo did not recognise any of the food so she was looking a little lost as she tried to decide what she wanted to try.

"Try the lamb tagine," Hannibal suggested. "And if you like soup, order the harira."

Jo nodded, lamb she was a bit familiar with but she had never heard of the soup before, “what’s ha-har-harira?” she stumbled over the word.

"A traditional soup, often with lentils and tomatoes," Hannibal said. "There are many variations."

“That does sound rather good,” Jo considered, “I think I would like to try that,”

Hannibal nodded and flagged down a waiter to order it for her. "I can't imagine you got many spices in post-war Britain," Hannibal said. "Have you been exploring modern dishes since you've been here?"

“I quite like Chinese and I’ve tried Thai,” Jo told him, “I’ve tried them a few times but there’s still a few food places I haven’t been to yet,” she explained.

"We should make it to India and Japan this term," Hannibal said. "I often go to Ethiopia and Brazil as well; we'll see how that works out."

Alara was quite interested in trying some different cuisine from Earth, she wasn’t sure what anything was but she was eager to try some Moroccan cuisine.

"What is your own cuisine like?" Hannibal asked Alara, passing her some of the tfaya couscous.

Alara looked rather curious at the dish, she’d never had couscous before, “well we use a lot of fruits, particularly in our deserts,” she explained, “but we do have this sauce called Trivalve Sauce that my dad says you have to eat when it’s completely boiled or the flavour won’t be as good,” she added, “but we’re mostly known for our alcoholic beverages in the Union, even though Xelayans don’t have livers so we’re not always aware of how strong our drinks are,” she admitted.

"It sounds interesting," Hannibal said. "Are you able to get any fruits from home?"

He was always looking for new ingredients.

“I could always ask my sister to send over some,” Alara offered, since her parents were still not really speaking to her, she was sure they wouldn’t send food over but she still talked to Solana on occasion.

"I would love some, if you get the chance," Hannibal said. "If you know what you want, Summer also might be able to get them in at the Turtle and Canary. She's quite resourceful."

“I don’t think it would be a problem ,” Alara told him, “Oh I didn’t realise you could do that,” she said, “if my sister can’t send any through I’ll definitely ask Summer if she’d be able to get them for me,”
