Class was meeting in the home ec room today as cupcake class nearly always did. Stark was standing at the front of the room as he nearly always did. There was a box on the counter in front of him as there nearly always was. There were also trays of chocolate and yellow cupcakes currently lacking in frosting.

“Welcome. And welcome back to some of you,” he said, looking around the room and turning his head slightly to do so. “I’m Stark, if any of you don’t know me.”

“I thought, today, since this is the first day for some of you, we would wait on baking. I have some unfrosted cupcakes here, and a few types of frosting, and some and you can decorate if you like.”

Stark paused and opened the box in front of him warily. “I have some frosting in here. Chocolate. Vanilla.” He pulled those two out and placed them on the counter before reaching in to the box again. “Peanut butter. And…some candies and fruits you can mix in if you like?” He was frowning at the box now, confused. “It seems that everything in the box today was meant to be in the box today.”

Summer was absolutely getting a confused but relieved look right now if she was there to be looked at.

“Right. Well. You can decorate some cupcakes if you like. First, introductions since I don’t think we all know each other. You can say as much as you like, or as little, but at least your names? Why you’re here, if you want. Maybe your favorite cupcake ingredient?”

Please don’t tell everyone your favorite cupcake ingredient is some sort of seafood or maggots ~~Summer~~. Don’t make the alien sad.

With PERFECTLY NORMAL but moddable add-ins for the frosting. Be as confused or relieved by that as you like. Stark is certainly feeling both feelings.

Summer would be pretty remiss to mention strawberries in her introduction and then not use them for her decoration, so she was going about carefully cutting strawberries into cute little hearts to plop onto her frosted cupcakes with some chocolate chip and a little chocolate drizzle and some of the sparkliest pink sprinkles she could find.

Amaya wasn't a baker, like she said, but she did work with a lot of fancy filigree work on plenty of weapons, so this wasn't too dissimilar, she felt, only the materials worked with were just a lot more delicate and squishy. Oddly enough, that made her feel like they were much more difficult to work with.

Either way, she found herself leaning heavily towards chocolate and peanut butter, with a liberal use of some gold sprinkles that she felt she pretty much had to use, if it was there and everything.

Vi had just gone with some plain vanilla this time, given what had happened last session.

Steph leaned over and gently nudged her with her shoulder in a silent You okay?

Vi nudged her back in reassurance. Everything was great, she'd even made it through one of Summer's classes without starting a fight.

Cool, cool.

Steph was just gonna... keep leaning against her a little bit, and not do anything at all that might prompt icing related shenanigans again. Because that had gone so poorly last time.

Vi would debate whether it was the icing shenanigans themselves that went poorly or just Steph's reaction.

In any case, she'd happily let Steph lean against her as long as she wanted.

True. Steph thought the icing shenanigans themselves had been a lot of fun. She just thought that taking them to that length had been pretty mean of her to do to Vi, and felt guilty about it. (That, plus how things had gone the other day, and this was getting to be a thing, wasn't it?)

Anyway, just leaning against Vi was nice and safe enough, so that was where she would be for a couple of minutes before going back to her own cupcakes.

...look, she was a little worried that Stark was going to turn a hose on them or something if they kept this up every week.

Steph went for the chocolate frosting, topped with some silver sprinkles that looked like oversized and very shiny ball bearings in a sort of studded-leather pattern. She felt it was a nice nod to both her punk and D&D nerd sides.

Given the last session, she was also sticking very studiously to her own workstation.

Kurt loved cooking and baking and all that went with that. So he was having fun with the couple of cupcakes he had in front of him. He was trying to be creative and make cupcakes that looked like lions. They weren't bad.... not as nice as what he had remembered seeing online, but the peanut butter and chocolate weren't too bad, just a little.... messy.

...was Illyana using her powers to try and stack sprinkles as high as she possibly could on her cupcake, by catching any sprinkles that fell off in tiny portals and having them reappear above her cupcake?

Yes. Yes she absolutely was. And if asked, she'd justify it as powers training.

"That's so cool," Vi said, because let's be real, she'd probably just use Illyana's powers for punching.

Illyana usually used her powers for punching. Or running. They were good for that.

"How many sprinkles fit on top of a cupcake?" she intoned, focused on her work as she micro-adjusted the tiny portals, totally focused on what was in front of her. "...wanna grab another jar full and start pouring them on?"

There was no way this could end poorly. Really.

None at all. Good thing Vi had excellent judgement.

She grabbed a jar of rainbow sprinkles. "You want me to pour fast or slow?"

Excellent judgement.

"Fast, probably, I don't know how long I can hold this," Illyana admitted. "It's hard to calculate mass and trajectory on something as small as a sprinkle."

"Once we get that jar fully balanced, maybe we can manage another... see if we can get more sprinkles than cupcake."

"That'd be pretty awesome," Vi said, because this is what happened when you had a habit of encouraging your baby sister when she did things like try to invent bombs. "Fast it is, then."

She didn't quite upend the container so the sprinkles tumbled out at in quick, steady stream.

Okay maybe this hadn't been a great plan, because that was a lot more mass than what she'd just been handling, and Illyana wrinkled up her nose in concentration as she had to pop up more mini portals to handle cascading sprinkles that were bouncing off what was already there, re-routing them back up above the cupcake.

"Maybe we need more frosting? For structure?"

It wasn't the worst idea anyone had had regarding frosting around Vi recently. "It can't hurt," she said. "Did you want that through a portal as well? Or should I just try and glob it on?"
