Cupcakes, Friday 7/8, period 2

Class was meeting in the home ec room today as cupcake class nearly always did. Stark was standing at the front of the room as he nearly always did. There was a box on the counter in front of him as there nearly always was. There were also trays of chocolate and yellow cupcakes currently lacking in frosting.

“Welcome. And welcome back to some of you,” he said, looking around the room and turning his head slightly to do so. “I’m Stark, if any of you don’t know me.”

“I thought, today, since this is the first day for some of you, we would wait on baking. I have some unfrosted cupcakes here, and a few types of frosting, and some and you can decorate if you like.”

Stark paused and opened the box in front of him warily. “I have some frosting in here. Chocolate. Vanilla.” He pulled those two out and placed them on the counter before reaching in to the box again. “Peanut butter. And…some candies and fruits you can mix in if you like?” He was frowning at the box now, confused. “It seems that everything in the box today was meant to be in the box today.”

Summer was absolutely getting a confused but relieved look right now if she was there to be looked at.

“Right. Well. You can decorate some cupcakes if you like. First, introductions since I don’t think we all know each other. You can say as much as you like, or as little, but at least your names? Why you’re here, if you want. Maybe your favorite cupcake ingredient?”

Please don’t tell everyone your favorite cupcake ingredient is some sort of seafood or maggots Summer. Don’t make the alien sad.

Say hello, your name, maybe a favorite ingredient or favorite color if you want to try and inspire a future week, maybe say how relieved you are there are no maggots in any of the food...

Starting with the maggots had really raised the bar for Friday food classes this time around, hadn't it?

And Summer was honestly just as surprised (though perhaps considerably more disappointed) by the...normalcy of the contents of the ingredients box as Stark, giving him a faint shrug and a clueless shake of her head at that confused look, but, yeah, no, they should probably enjoy this while they still could.

"Hiiii," she offered out, once it came around to her turn, "I'm Summer. I'm here because of course I am, I wouldn't miss Cupcakes class for anything." Not entirely true, but true enough! "Obviously, my favorite color's pink, but we know how that goes, I'm pretty partial to turquoise, too, but that might be, you know, weirdly specific. And I really like strawberries and a space fruit called meiloorun, and, really, if you're doing fresh fruit in your cupcakes, you're clearly doing something right."

See? Totally normal answer, no maggots allowed.

"I'm glad you wouldn't miss it," Stark told her. "It's good to have you here. What does your space fruit taste like?"

Turquoise was close enough to blue, really, that it could come into play in a future week.

Kurt gave a small somewhat shy wave as he started. "Hi, I'm Kurt Wagner. I am excited to be taking the class and think it will be a fun one! As far as my favorite thing to put in cupcakes it have to be chocolate! And favorite color is not blue" he said with a slight head shake because to be honest he saw more than enough blue already as it was. "It's actually green."

What could possibly go wrong with green ingredients?

"Hi," Terra gave a little wave. "I'm Terra, I'm here because who doesn't love a good cupcake?" she grinned. "My favorite color is green, which I'm sure is shocking to anyone who knows me at all."

Yes, yes, Earth fairy named Terra loves plants and the color green. She fully understood how much she was leaning in to a stereotype here.

"Amaya Blackstone," Amaya offered out, with a nod, and a pound of her fist into her palm for her standard greeting for this sort of thing, "local blacksmith."

Yes, it was important to include that part.

"Not much of a baker, truth be told, but that's what got me think I ought to give it a try with this class." With an additional nod to Stark, as she figured he'd have remembered that conversation and, if not? Oh, well, she was in it now, anyway. "I like green, I guess, and gold, and pretty much anything on a stick, although mostly meats in the regard. Don't suspect there'll be too much of that in this class, though."

Not if the boxes kept behaving, anyway.

"I'm Clare," Clare burbled in her thick Derry accent, "and I'm not at all picky when it comes to sweets."

She would become extremely picky if bugs became involved.

"We don't get many aside from Christmastime at home and me friends are dead jealous I get to eat them so often here in America."

Steph would probably literally flip a table if there were maggots in the food, just saying.

"Hey, what's up, I'm Steph, and --" No, she wasn't going to make an edibles joke, it had just crossed her mind for the briefest moment. "I would be all about anything to do with chocolate. Maybe chocolate and peanut butter?"

"Illyana Rasputin. Kurt already said chocolate, so I will go with margaritas," 'Yana decided. "I do not know WHY I find them so tasty, even the non-alcoholic ones, but I do."

“Hey,” Guillermo said with his usual awkward wave, “I’m Guillermo de la Cruz and I love baking and my favourite colour is black and my favourite ingredient is sugar,” he babbled, pushing his glasses back up when they had slid off his nose.

With PERFECTLY NORMAL but moddable add-ins for the frosting. Be as confused or relieved by that as you like. Stark is certainly feeling both feelings.

Summer would be pretty remiss to mention strawberries in her introduction and then not use them for her decoration, so she was going about carefully cutting strawberries into cute little hearts to plop onto her frosted cupcakes with some chocolate chip and a little chocolate drizzle and some of the sparkliest pink sprinkles she could find.

Amaya wasn't a baker, like she said, but she did work with a lot of fancy filigree work on plenty of weapons, so this wasn't too dissimilar, she felt, only the materials worked with were just a lot more delicate and squishy. Oddly enough, that made her feel like they were much more difficult to work with.

Either way, she found herself leaning heavily towards chocolate and peanut butter, with a liberal use of some gold sprinkles that she felt she pretty much had to use, if it was there and everything.

Steph went for the chocolate frosting, topped with some silver sprinkles that looked like oversized and very shiny ball bearings in a sort of studded-leather pattern. She felt it was a nice nod to both her punk and D&D nerd sides.

Given the last session, she was also sticking very studiously to her own workstation.

Kurt loved cooking and baking and all that went with that. So he was having fun with the couple of cupcakes he had in front of him. He was trying to be creative and make cupcakes that looked like lions. They weren't bad.... not as nice as what he had remembered seeing online, but the peanut butter and chocolate weren't too bad, just a little.... messy.

Yes. Yes she absolutely was. And if asked, she'd justify it as powers training.
