The Shed of Holding was back in the center of the park, so clearly that was a terrible sign. Anakin also looked very pleased with himself, so...run.

"Today we have more obstacles to overcome!" Anakin said through the microphone and seriously, someone take away his access to British television shows. "Listen for your name and you cannot use powers today for any of the events. You can, however, take suggestions from your teammates!"

"Get out, I fucking love this," Steph exclaimed, immediately taking her phone out so she could get a picture of the shirt and send it to Ryan.

Little bittersweet, since she couldn't help thinking of that whole incident where Gabe had accidentally hit a Canada goose with his car and Ryan had convinced him that the Mounties would be after him for it, but still.

Vi held up her shirt complete with fuzzy little animal. "I don't want to know about this one either, do I?"

Steph immediately clapped both hands over her mouth and still failed to smother her laughter.

Hi, thoughts I did not need to have right now.

"Oh my god," she finally managed, way redder in the face than she should have been for the amount of laughing she'd just done. "That's... oh my god. That's. Um. Some dirty slang right there."

Excuse her while she died inside for a bit.

"Oh," Vi said, looking at he shirt again and putting two and two together. "It's the wrong colour then."

She'd meant to say that only to herself...

Steph stood there very, very still for a moment or two, blinking slowly and hoping she didn't actually look like she wanted to die.

"So that," she finally said in a very strained voice, vaguely gesturing in the direction of Vi's head. "That's. Your natural color then."

It was extremely rare that she wanted to spontaneously combust but right now? She was pretty sure she needed that to happen.

Oops. "Well, yeah." Vi searched for a way to derail (rerail?) the conversation. "Family thing. Remember the girls?"

Luckily all this talk of (de)railing was purely in the narrative.

Steph resolutely pushed right on past the other euphemism that sprang to mind there and nodded.

"Like I was going to forget?" she asked with a small smile. "They're pretty much the reason we really got to be good friends."

And just that, regardless of any flirting anyone was trying to pretend didn't happen.

"Yeah," Vi said with a fond grin. "Like I said then, the hair came from my side."

That Amber would've been pelting them with pinecones if she'd been there could have been either side, really.

Really, really good friends, and that was all. Anything that might've resembled flirting was ~~an outlier and should not be counted except that's not at all how outliers work~~ immaterial.

"I remember you saying that," admitted Steph, somewhat sheepishly. In her defense, at the time she hadn't had any reason to suspect she'd ever, you know. Wonder about the extent of... yeah.

Amber would come by that inclination honestly from both sides of the family.

Immaterial and not anything either of them actually wanted. At all.

Honestly, there were probably a great many thing Steph hadn't thought she'd ever be thinking about at the time. "Yeah, in any case it's all...natural."

And she'd probably be able to convince Cerise to join in with only minor prompting.

Oh, there were so many things Steph had been sure she'd never be thinking about by now.

"Good to --" She cleared her throat and stared at some point just over Vi's shoulder, because looking her in the eye was not happening right now. "Know."

Wait. No, that made it sound like she'd been wondering.

"I mean..." She sighed and once again wished for spontaneous combustion. "It looks really good on you?"

Yeah, there's no digging your way out of this one, Gingrich.

Not on her own there wasn't, good thing Vi was going to tell herself she was just talking about the hair on her head, regardless of how little sense that made.

"Thanks?"

Well, that was the only part Steph could actually talk about with any authority.

"As your best friend it's my job to inflate your ego a little bit every now and then," she said, and reached up to give Vi's hair an affectionate ruffle.

Vi grinned, leaning into the touch. "Do it too much and it'll burst."

And now Steph was just reminded of that water balloons shirt from last week, thanks, Vi.

"It's also my job to give you shit a whole bunch of the time, too, so you don't have to worry about that," she retorted, combing her fingers idly but repeatedly through Vi's hair.

And trying very hard not to think about water balloons or beavers. Help her. Please.

Sorry, Steph, you were on your own there.

"That's why you're the best," Vi said with a happy little sigh.

It was fine, she'd just go fling herself into the pond afterward or something.

Steph leaned her head against Vi's shoulder. "Well, don't you deserve the best?"

Watch out for all the debris from the beach ball task.

Vi slid an arm around her and rested her chin against Steph's head. "I don't really think about things like that," she admitted. Not when it came to herself at least.

It was fine, she could just pile it all around herself and hide in it.

"That's what you've got me for," Steph said, eyes drifting half closed as she relaxed against Vi. "Making sure you get nice things that you deserve. You know, on top of maintaining your ego and all that shit."

Vi laughed and kind of nuzzled the too of Steph's head. "Someone needs to make sure you get nice things too."

Was that a happy little noise Steph made at the nuzzling? Maybe.

"I've got you. You're nice things."

It was probably a good thing Steph couldn't see the look on Vi's face just then.

"Yeah, you do," Vi said, soft and earnest.

Was it anything like the look on Steph's face? Because she was kind of glad Vi couldn't see it either. Also she knew neither of them meant it like that, but she could pretend for a moment.

"Yeah, well, right back at you," she said finally.
