Library is Open, 4-19

Zero, looking...not really better than before, but trying to (the ace bandage on her wrist is gone) opens the library, sits down at the computer, and starts last-minute e-mailing people about her trip home.

Hi, Claude. I'm going to be home this afternoon for an interview thingy--ask Arsenal--and I was hoping my dress was ready. Please say yes.

Zero leaves the computer to eat her lunch--turkey on rye--with the other library aides and librarian.

Parker comes in with a salad and some grapes, in what is for her, a really simple lunch. "Hey. How goes it? I can cover most of this afternoon, if you need to do stuff."

"Yeah, I have a thing with Peter, so I'll need to leave out after fifth period."

"Works. Penance for skipping out on Monday." Parker cocked an eyebrow. "Thing? What kinda thing? Date thing, project thing, anti-Mole-Men thing?"

"Project thing, for his journalism class."

"That's right, you told me that." Parker shook her head. "Plus, aren't you picking up your dress from Arsenal's Claude?"

Zero sends off one more last-minute e-mail.

Whatever the others tell you about Peter, don't believe a word. It will all be lies. I know them.

Angela waved to Zero as she came in. "Hey."

"Hey. What's the swoo?"

"Prom, apparently," Angela said, sighing. "I never thought I would actually go. I mean, to any prom. This isn't a Marty thing."

"It's not so much a me thing, either, but I'm goin'. Got a dress?"

Angela shook her head. "I'm going shopping with Molly, Cam, Isabel and I think a couple other people tomorrow. But I refuse to wear, like, sequins. Or pastels."

"Do you have one?"

"Yeah, I'm pickin' it up this afternoon when I go home with Peter for his interview thingy. Arsenal's Claude made it."

"Your sister's boy? Cool, it'll be unique," Angela said. "Peter was really cute last night. He wanted to know what he had to do for prom. I told him dinner and to find flowers that didn't clash with your hair."

Zero giggled. "My hair has thrown a wrench in many a fashion choice. Claude was all, 'What color is it now, so the dress doesn't match or clash?'"

Angela grinned, considering this dilemma. "I think a pale blue might look really elegant with your hair," she said. "Unless Peter wore a matching shirt. Then that's just tacky."

"Do you have any idea what Claude's gonna do?"

"Not yet. He dresses Arsenal in black, but then Arsenal likes black."

Angela nodded. "Black works. It's classic for a reason, right?"

"I think I want something light-colored for me."

Parker's shelving stuff now, and avoiding her campaigning homework.

Zero has left the library for a visit home with Peter. Perhaps another library aide could help you?

Parker's here, cursing in Russian, and ready to help you. Save her from the cases, will you?
