Choose Your Own Adventure: Tuesday, 3rd Period (5/17)
Everybody was back at the Community Center today, and this time there were spiral notebooks laid out at the tables for everyone along with an assortment of pencils, pens, and colored pencils. Steph was once again sitting on the front table and kicking her feet back and forth, this week in a sleeveless black t-shirt that said "Roll for Panic Attack" on it.
"Soooooooooooo, it looks like the high fantasy setting just edged out the nautical one," she said, looking slightly apologetic. She'd kind of wanted to bust out that pirate costume again. "But it is a classic choice for reasons. We're talking unicorns, giants, and dragons here, people. Swords and magic and epic adventure, courtly intrigue, the works."
She had a feeling at least a couple of people on the roster would feel right at home there, too.
"With that in mind, everybody grab a notebook because we're going to get into character creation this week," she went on, clapping her hands once for emphasis and grinning her infectious, not-quite-maniacal grin of excitement. "For starters, what's your character's name? What's their background -- a simple farmer, maybe, or a knight, or the village healer? What kinds of skills have they learned from their life experience? What's their social status? Then start thinking about what really drives them. Revenge? Riches? Doesn't have to be anything huge. Maybe they just want to make it to this one shop in the kingdom's capital to get their grandmother the perfect birthday present. Not everybody has to be a hero, but if that's what's gonna make you happy here? Go for it, dude. We're here to have fun."
She held her hands out in a reassuring gesture. "I know that might seem like a lot, but that's just for starters. We can dig deeper into character details over the next couple of weeks, as we build out the world and get a sense of what kind of adventure we're going on. Bounce ideas off each other if you want to here, or ask me for help if that's more comfortable. And once I have a better sense of what kind of characters you all are going to give me to work with, we can start planning out the kind of adventure we're gonna go on."

Character Creation/Brainstorming! (LARP Project, Week 2)
Re: Character Creation/Brainstorming! (LARP Project, Week 2)
She was having trouble with a name, though; everything she thought of sounded much too
hobbithalfling-like, not like a fancy elf name at all, which made her wonder if she should not be an elf, she did likehobbitshalflings an awful lot, especially the ones in the King of the Bracelets world, but....elves!!She frowned a little in concentration, the urge to go back and restart entirely strong, but she tried to remind herself that it was always best to stick with your gut, and if her gut was telling her halfling-like elf, then that was what she was going to do, it was her character, after all....

He was going to be a knight! Sir Graham of Daventry! Rescuer of maidens, defeater of dragons, bane of evil wizards and enchanters everywhere!
So with that part easily settled, he was sort of wondering what he could do to make improvements on the character. Like maybe if he could add wings or something. Maybe he could breathe fire! Maybe he spent years in the underground infiltrating the Goblin Kingdom and learning their ways and their methods, before his brain started to wonder if maybe they could do an adventure with goblins! Or maybe a magician turning people into goblins! Or a goblin turning people into magicians! Yeah, that might work! Oh, oh, or he could...
Most of this was entirely going on in Graham's head, though, as he nodded along as if agreeing with himself and jotting down at least a few ideas, which was probably a good thing, because once they figured out how to move from his brain and out of his mouth, there was a good chance it wouldn't be stopping.

No, wait, she could be a pirate with a magic ship that sailed through the air and nowhere could be safe from her dashing and rakish pirate queen.

Steph, no, you did not need any more insight into Isabela's creative process.

So he started writing things down, getting all the basic details he already knew down and then started expanding on them, an excited grin on his face the whole time. When he finally stopped writing he looked down at his paper to read what he had so far:
Name: Kentaro
Age: Young (???)
Race: Wolfen , soul bonded with a feline companion
Companion: A large wild mountain cat (lynx like)
Family: Small nomadic tribe. About a dozen or so. Mother, Father, brother, and a few other of their kind.
Appearance: Small for his kind, dark black fur where there is fur, skin is golden eyes,
Backstory: The small tribe lived in the woods where a couple of villages lay scattered among the trees. When Kentaro was still young, the villages banded together to drive the peaceful yet intimidating looking ‘cat-demon’ out of their woods. Not wanting to fight, the tribe tried to flee, but the villagers got worked into a frenzy and ended up killing everyone but Kentaro. He escaped but lived on his own in the woods for the rest of his life, being rejected by every village he came to due to his ‘savage’ wild cat appearance, and not trusting people much at all himself. Kentaro traveled a lot and has been many places and seen many things. People in villages sometimes whisper about the mysterious shadow that is seen in the woods at times. This mysterious entity is rarely seen though there are stories that they often coms to the aid of the innocent and yet are just as likely to rob those deemed ‘wicked’ in some way. A Robin Hood of sorts.
Social Status: Outcast, wanderer, rogue
That didn't seem like too bad of a start....

He absolutely decided to base his character around being a vampire and decided that he was going to be a vampire called ‘Guillermo the Great’ and that he lived in a castle outside the village. He hadn’t made much progress beyond that but he figured that was a pretty good start to work with.

But, since this was Jaskier, it was a lot of purple prose mixed with passive aggressive digs about his character flaws.
Look, you had to let him heal in his own way.

. . . Look. Aliens were pretty inescapable with Rosa, okay?
As for her character . . . maybe a gnome that rode a dragon? Gnomes were tiny, right? Like in that cartoon with the fox that had made Liz cry for three weeks when she watched the ending. She could use a toothpick for a sword and a bottle cap for a shield. And for motivation. . . .
Why the hell was "blood feud" the only thing she could think of?

She wrote that down, along with the word magic with a very large question mark after it. A magic knight sounded terribly exciting.

On one hand? Smashing was what she KNEW.
On the other? Being a hero hadn't turned out great for her IRL.
So far, all she had was dad-joke bartender/entertainer? as a concept, but she'd probably come up with something more concrete eventually.
