The class had been told to meet out by the old high school camping area: an ideal locale that gave lots of cabins to hide behind or snipe from on top, as well as trees and collapsing piles of logs.

Steve and Tony had also modified the area with fences, ropes to climb up and swing from, plexiglass barriers to hide behind...it was a lot. They'd learned from last summer's class that the people on this island took paintball unbelievably seriously.

"Welcome to our first class," Steve said, grinning. "Grab yourself a suit, some goggles, and a weapon. In future classes you can bring your own suit, if you have one, but please use our weapons to make sure we're all starting out with the same quality."

"The suits are a must unless you really want to go avant-garde with your fashion choices," Tony added. "Now, this class is simple. It's a battle Royale to see who lasts the longest without getting hit."

"As the summer goes on, we'll add additional barriers, or put you into small teams," Steve said, "but for today, it's every being for themselves. Today we're using paint guns. Other classes we might use balloons, or cans of paint, or something that Tony invents to cause additional mayhem--" Steve grinned. He loved when Tony came up with something to cause more mayhem. Ahem. Learning opportunities. "--but right now, we'll keep it classic."

"Let's get to it!" No time like now to get shot with paint, right?"

Next week the boys might remember to mention not to use powers if you have them, but this week they forgot! Have fun with that!

Anakin grabbed his weapon, hated what the hat was doing to his hair, and took off running for one of the cabins where there would plenty of options for hiding and shooting.

Was Cara, as one of the only other people in this class who'd actually stayed in the cabins, also headed for them? Yes.

Anakin grinned and started running faster. For whatever reason, a mask over his face wasn't making it more difficult for him to breathe.

Weird.

Very weird.

Cara could have chased him, but why would she do that when she had a ranged weapon and experience with moving targets?

Steve immediately climbed into a tree because, well, a sniper's gonna snipe.

Aaaaand Danny was immediately sniped.

"Goddamnit, Steven!" He knew. Oh, he knew.

The tree definitely giggled at that.

Danny, maturely and with love, flipped him off.

Steve wasn't much for sitting still and waiting for people come near him, so off he ran, trusting on his speed and agility to get him through.

They hadn't said no powers, soooo literally no one was going to be able to hit Kitty. However, the paintballs she fired were definitely solid as she ran around shooting people.

What, paintball was fun.

Lana had spent the last decade and a half in a warzone. She knew what she was doing.

Fighting with this damn outfit and a jammed gun was what she was doing.

Was Anakin going to take full advantage of that and shoot at her back?

Yup.

Lana only managed to partly dodge, and scowled back at him, more exasperated than upset. "Just wait until Thursday, Master Jedi!"

Ugh, what a start to the term!

Anakin laughed. "I'm not afraid of you."

Sneakiness, for better or worse, had always been Irene's forte. So she immediately went on the defensive, finding a little nook between a cabin and a tree that she figured would provide cover enough that she could outlast at least a few of these competitors.

Gray...well. Gray fell asleep pretty much as soon as things got started.

Sorry, kid. Steve was definitely sniping at you from the tree.

Gray did not even wake up when hit with paintballs from on high.

That didn't make it any less mean of you, Steve.

Stark did not, unfortunately, have any powers that would offer any advantage in paintball. Not that he'd cheat against anyone but Anakin. Probably.

He headed for higher ground to start with but that whole blind on the right side thing was probably going to be an issue today.

Anakin was definitely using Stark's blind spot to Anakin's advantage, closing in and then shooting.

It was easier to compensate when he'd had time to familiarize himself with his surroundings.

Alas, that was not the case for Stark today. And now he was all painted already.

"Anakin!"

It was almost always Anakin. He just assumed at this point.

Goose had never played paintball before so it was a little different to using his normal blasters and it showed.

Even though he remembered to late that he could simply hit his badge and use his ranger powers to avoid getting hit.

Eliot was extremely I’ll prepared for this class. But when magic broke in the midst of a duel to the death he’d made it work, so when it was a battle to the splattered-with-paint, he at least already knew if a potentially viable strategy.

He hid up a tree.

“Ugh. Guns are so gauche.”

Alara’s particular abilities were unfortunately not useful for paintball but she got further than she thought she would up until she ended up breaking her paintball gun and getting paint on herself.
