Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2022, Early Saturday Evening

There were normal traditions, and there were Fandom traditions, and having this party get started right around dusk was definitely a Fandom tradition. As the sun went down, the finishing touches of decorations were made; the lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, and there were chairs set up for all of the graduates, along with plenty of seats for guests to come and watch. There were more people here than usual with families, alumni, and the island's latest guests, but that just meant having more folks around to celebrate the graduates. Surely, that wouldn't end poorly.

Congratulations, Class of 2022! You made it!

Grab a seat, greet some guests--no one pre-gamed, right?

At the appropriate moment, there was Pomp and Circumstance, because even this place followed some normal traditions. It was time for the soon-to-be-graduates to make the last adjustments to their blue and gold robes, and get to walking to their seats!

Everyone's least favorite part of the ceremony!

Once the speech(es?) were over, Zoe came back up to the podium, and called each graduate's name to give them their diploma.

It turned out that sitting in folding chairs at sundown to watch high school kids graduate was just as boring in Fandom as it was in Wichita. Kara scratched at her head under her amazing beanie and sighed. "When does the invasion part start already?" she muttered.

"Uuugh, this is so boring," Nonny said, not even trying to be quiet about it. Sorry everyone around her. "Nostalgia is a hell of a drug if I thought any of this was fun."

"I mean, it's fun," Megan said. "But there have been much better graduations. Is there even an actual threat anymore?"

"I miss Angelus and his leather pants," Kara sighed.

"The first seasons were better," Nonny had to admit. "Messy, but there was a rawness there, you know? Like an indie quality."

"You know what we need? Underworld demons," Megan decided. "Imagine how much cooler that would be."

"They haven't done demons before, have they?" Kara said. "Well, aside from Bel. And Lucifer."

"New one or old one?" Nonny asked, leaning forward to lean against the chair in front of her. Mostly just to look cool.

"They both count," Megan decided. "Or ooh! What about battling their personal demons!"

"That's too much like baggage day," Kara declared. "It needs to be one giant demon."

"How about a big snake demon?" Nonny suggested with a grin that implied she was totally doing this to mess with someone. Possibly Buffy fans.

"I love it," Megan said. "I feel like I've seen it but that could make it like, a classic." And if people felt compelled to throw out quips when fighting, well that just made it better!

"A giant snake demon would be amazing," Kara sighed. "And a tribute and not a total ripoff, unlike some people's novels." Sorry not sorry, Megan.

And that was when the bleachers groaned. That was probably bad, right?

"Uh... guys?" Wasn't that supposed to be on the stage and not where they were sitting? Considering Nonny not a fan of being in the action.

The bleachers rumbled. Then they began to shake, as if something-- something too-big for them was pushing its way to the--

A massive, lizardlike thing burst forth from the bleachers, knocking everyone off in all directions and sending pieces flying off the walls. It threw its head back and roared, full of malicious intent, and...

...did it have a red ponytail?

It absolutely had a red ponytail. It was also wearing a leather jacket.

"ROWR!"

It was here to eat you.

Hey graduates, you might want to deal with this! Or you can leave it to the people who made this mess happen in the first place. There's so many options!

You ruined a perfectly good mayor is what you did. Look at her, she's got ~~anxiety~~ fangs.

Lick your wounds, check on your family members, and/or be grateful graduation is over for another year.

“ROAR!”, Jesse… roared.

She was quite large, and smelled a bit as if she’d just been in a monster flower basement for the past day, because she had been. But also she had claws! And teeth! And a ROAR!

It had been over ten years since Liz had had her graduation ceremony and it was mostly nostalgia to see what this year’s ceremony would be like that she decided to attend. She certainly never imagined that she would be back again and several months pregnant with Hellboy’s twins that was for sure but sometimes it was nice to get out every one and a while for a change in scenery but she was making sure to take it easy and not move around so much.

With everything Astrid had been through, it did feel like kind of an accomplishment to have actually made it to this point. Four long years, riccocheting between Fandom and California with plenty of trauma sprinkled in between. Her mortarboard was, of course, painted from corner to corner, in a motif of white oleander, as she walked across the stage to recieve her diploma.

Goose did not think it was strange that he was shirtless at a school graduation ceremony or that it was strange for him to be shirtless as a teacher at said ceremony for that matter. Then again Goose rarely factored in things like that when he was normal … or as normal as things got for him. As he waited he tried to think of some recipes that he could attempt to cook without making even more of a mess of his kitchen than he had already over the last couple of days.

Ugh, Summer was sooooo glad she was able to get time off work so that she could make it to the graduation ceremony! So she was stoked to be there to cheer on her soon-to-be fellow alumni and record it all for posterity and Instagram.

At first, Summer was kind of wondering if she should be offended about the whole red ponytail thing, but then she realized, with a gasp of shock and amazement, "I think that monster is my GIRLFRIEND!"

Now there was a fic for you!

"Oh wow," Megan said. "This is so realistic!"

Libby had spent the day packing up and getting ready to be completely written off in the morning, but she definitely wanted to say long enough to get to see a graduation at a real school before going back to Tennessee. She knew she'd be finishing out her education back at home again, but maybe she could take at least a few notes to make her own 'graduation' a little more like this one.

She really had no idea that she would be completely fine with not replicating how Fandom High graduations tended to go.
