ADVANCED THEORY: Origins

You should all have partners by now. One person from each pair/triplet will need to come to my desk and write your name and the name of your partner(s) on this paper. As you do so, you will be assigned an ancient society of this dimension to research and present at least three important impacts they had on mathematics today. This will be due next week, and graded. You get the entire day to research.

[OOC: What I want is for Fraser and RayK from Due South to show up and join the town police force. Well, with good writers behind them, that is. I'm not going to do it myself, though, as I've already got students, staff and townies covered and I'm not sure enough of their voices. But I totally get the fandom geek thing. I mean, I'm playing out of small/obscure fandoms for all of mine(including what's probably the first thing I was ever a fan of - back in the '80s. when I was tiny), but I have such love for all the people who do these really awesome jobs of reimagining their characters as teenagers shoved together in this really odd school and just nailing their voices. Whoever it is that's playing Archie Kennedy is great - I really need to fangirl the letter they've had him write to Horatio. And there're so many others. So, who're you going to sign up next . . . oi, that was long.]

[OOC: Wouldn't it be awesome? I've only seen a bit of the show myself(and none when it was originally on), but I'm planning to buy the DVDs now that they've come out in cheaper, better-packaged versions and I've read a supremely massive amount of fic for it(am actually doing that in the background right now - ds_flashfiction). And you're mostly right about obscure fandoms, except for ones that appeal to 13 y.o. girls, like Bend It Like Beckham, which I would really love to see more fic for, but not of the awful, stupid, angsty fem-slash or goopy/angsty romance-novel sort that seems to be the norm *sigh* As for the whole Who's the Boss? thing, well, I have to admit to rather liking it when I was in . . . middle school? something like that, so I understand the Angela love. As for the sickness and/or wrongness of your x-over pairing? Meh. Whatever. It's fanfic. You can take it anywhere you want. And there's good porn to be had for 'The Nanny'? Now, that sounds promising . . . (and we just keep getting longer and longer winded)]

[OOC:I mostly read in book and tv show fandoms, but I do have a couple movies - BILB, PotC, Breakfast Club, Hard Core Logo(in X-overs), possibly something else I'm forgetting. Eh. I like any fandom that grips me, basically. And I was still in middle school when WtB? stopped airing, which is like half a lifetime away. Never even thought to look for fic about it(nor Caroline in the City, which might be amusing, considering that the show used pretty much every trick in the book to keep Caroline and Richard apart for like forever and it would be interesting to see what fans could come up with beyond that) as, umm, it went off the air at a point I hadn't started thinking about fictional characters like that and I didn't imprint on it the way I did on, say, The Dark Is Rising books or The Babysitters Club series. Anyway, I know all about having a ton of fic sitting around waiting for me to finish it - I write mainly in HP(yeah, another one), but my current baby is an HP/Smallville x-over, which I'm actually pretty proud of and may actually finish. Also, Sam/Jon? I'd totally read that, but then I'm helping beta one of my friends' Smallville fic in which Clark and Lex grow up as brothers and then get involved, so, y'know . . . I'm flexible. Oh, and it's totally your fault that I now have Fran Drescher saying "Mr. Shef-fieeeeeld" in my head. 8)]
