Books vs Movies, Tuesday first period
"Right, welcome back." Jon rubbed his eyes and gestured toward the screen. "I...actually, I hadn't planned doing two children's movies back to back, but there are so very many awful biblical movies out there, so this is what you get. At least it's slightly less whitewashed than most of them.
"Anyway, enjoy it, think of how it chose to expand on, ignore, or subvert the original text, and then let's discuss it.
"And for next week, please read 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'."

Listen to the lecture and watch the movie!

Libby had no idea what to expect when they would be doing part of Exodus (which of course she reread again, even though she practically knew it by heart; maybe more puppets? Slightly better production value than a church play?
But no. She got...this.
Listen, this poor girl was practically on the edge of tears by the end of the intro, with little gasps and small laughs whenever the story hit the expected beats and she was locked in whenver it strayed, fascinated by where it would go, and, sorry, once that burning bush entered the picture...she was just gone.

That was definitely the question. That he was not asking.

Well, at the same time, there was no shame in letting your faith and devotion shine through, either....
"I've read and heard Moses' tale told so many time, Mr. Sims, but I never thought...never like this, not even in picture books, that was so beautiful, and the story was....well, I thought it was very well done. It was...kind of an interesting choice, though, to make the Pharoah Moses' brother, but they sure cut out a lot, too, which I think is fair. Sometimes," she looked a little embarrassed to admit this out loud, far more embarrassed even than having cried in class, "the Bible does liked to drone on..."
Then she bit her lip, almost as if expecting a reprimant for that, even though she figured no one would care that she'd said that here...which made the thrill of saying it almost even better.

He huffed in laughter. "Exodus isn't quite as bad as some books, but yes. I wonder if there are parts you think they should have left in, or changed, or not changed."
Personally, he rather wished they'd left Moses a stutterer. Call it a personal interest.
