Library, Thursday 1/13

There were cookbooks having a fight when Belle arrived in the library. At least, being books, it wasn't an actual food fight.

Not that flying books were such an improvement over flying food but at least it would be easier to clean up once they were finished. Or so Belle hoped. For the moment she was just trying to stay out of their way.

She's here and the desk is happily not on the field of battle.

"...what is going on here?" Five demanded once he arrived to ~~stalk Belle a lil' bit~~ come find a book or two.

"They're fighting," Belle said. Wasn't that obvious, Five? "I haven't the faintest idea why."

They were books, though.

Five huffed, crossing his arms as he tried to glare the books into submission. It did not work. "How you manage to work here, I'll never know."

They were vaguely magical books!

"They usually aren't trying to bother me, as far as I can tell. They're just much more active than most books."

Five hummed like he wasn't completely annoyed by the magic book thing. "Well, I brought you some Poptarts if you want them."

Oh, how kind of him.

Five was fooling nobody by pretending he wasn't annoyed. Not a soul.

"You brought Poptarts?" Belle repeated, just a bit startled.

"They were in the common room," Five said like it totally made it less weird to do.

Nope. Still weird.

"Oh. Well, thank you. I always enjoy a snack."

She just might enjoy it a little suspiciously.

Hey! Just because he had the social skills of a rabid possum...

"You're welcome," he said, giving her one of the packets of Poptarts he'd taken. For a healthy, normal breakfast.

They were in high school. They weren't supposed to eat healthy, normal breakfasts anyway.

"Thank you," Belle said again as she accepted the toaster pastry. "I do like these."

"I like the s'mores one," Five admitted. "It's the marshmallow fluff."

"How many flavors are there?" Belle asked, eyeing her Poptart. "I like marshmallows. Very good in cocoa."

For those days when it wasn't time for tea.

"...probably a lot. I don't buy groceries to know." Because that was for other people.

"I usually just find them in the cupboards in the common rooms," Belle said. "I like brown sugar ones."

"Ugh." You were the worst, Belle.

"You don't like those ones?"

But they were the best flavor.

"They're too sweet." You know, said the guy who liked marshmallow fluff.

"All of them are sweet!"

That was the point.

"Yes, but that one is just bad at it," Five insisted.

"You're just being argumentative," Belle accused.

Five scoffed, struggling to not prove her point by arguing with it. But...

"There are better flavors."

"I'll try the marshmallow ones," Belle offered.

"Good." What was he even winning here? "I'll bring you some. Next time I come to the library."

When he showed up and didn't silently stalk to make sure no one was dead or anything.

"I'll be here next week," Belle said. "As far as I know."

"I'll bring it then." Because it was normal now, see? See, Belle?

"Just to bring me marshmallow flavored snacks?"

Just trying to figure out the angle here, Five.

"To prove you wrong." Which was important. The real important thing here.

"Of course," Belle said with an eyeroll. "How silly of me."

Someone (it me) is so damn tired of dealing with actual food fights in her own library.

"Oh, the chocolate milk didn't get all over those books!" Is not the defense these children think it is when they throw cartons at each other.

"Her water bottle fell over."
"It fell over, or you threw it at her?"
"It fell."
"You know I can see you, right?"
