fandomhigh | PE and Health Class - Friday

Dwight wasn't sure what kind of turn out to expect for a class like this seeing as it was his first time teaching at Fandom High, and his first time teaching any sort of class in quite a few years. Honestly, he was happy just to have a student or two show up. And so as he stood in front of the small group that had gathered in the Danger Shop for the first day of class, he waited for the clock to tick over to starting time.

Meanwhile, Gladio was pretty much feeling like an old hat at this sort of thing by now. So as long as they didn't have chocobos popping up every time they tried to do a lesson, he was going to consider the class a rousing success. And, as the more experienced instructor in this hulking duo, he had no issue with taking charge, clapping his hands together to rally up the troops (so to speak) and get their attention.

"Alright, everyone!" his voice boomed easily over the room. "Listen up! Hopefully, you're here for PE and Health, and, if not, well….stick around, anyway. It'll be good for you. Since it's the first class, we're going to mostly be focused on getting to know each other and where everyone's at, so we know what we're working with going forward."

"So let's start with the basics then shall we?" Dwight picked up again as he looked at the group. "I'm Dwight Hendrickson and this handsome fella over here" he added with a smirk at his teaching buddy, "is Gladio Amicitia. We are your instructors for this class this semester and we have some great things planned for you all so it should be an enjoyable semester for us all!"

"And now as we get started," Dwight continued, "let's have your name, why you are in this class, whether you consider yourself a beginner or more a pro for the athletic stuff, and what your favorite sport or outdoor activity is. Then we will get the Danger Shop up and going and run through a few basics to see where everyone is at. And as always, feel free to ask any questions you may have!"

Spill the beans to your teachers...again!

“Uh … I’m Josephine Jones, I go by Jo,” Jo said nervously as she stared up at her teachers, “I … uh … I don’t remember signing up for this class? Um … “ she turned bright red, “uh … I’m not very good at sports at all ,” she said, suddenly very self conscious and then she blurted out the next bit without meaning to, “I can’t swim and I’m afraid of water, especially deep water - I had an incident at my last school …well several incidents but I ... ” she stammered, “do I need a doctor’s note for that? I … don’t …” her voice trailed off uncertainly and she fidgeted as she tried to not start crying before they’d even started class.

Also she was very clearly not dressed for PE in her long dress and cardigan.

Dwight gave Jo a soft smile, trying to reassure her before he even started to speak.

"I'm glad you are here for the class, Jo, even if it wasn't your first choice of classes to attend. And you don't have to worry about how much experience you have, we are here to learn and improve. Which is something I think anyone is capable of, regardless of their starting point. Don't you think?" he asked with another reassuring smile.

"I think you are very brave for taking this class, especially since it is one you did not sign up for. As for the swimming bit, we only had a few sessions involving water related activities. And I think Gladio and I can easily adapt those to better accommodate you, Jo."

Jo sniffed and took a deep breath, eyes still filling with tears, “okay, thank you Mr. Hendrickson,” she managed to stammer.

"Hey I'm Guillermo de la Cruz," Guillermo said and yes he was still doing that awkward wave when he did introductions, "this class was a requirement for my scholarship ... um ... I'm very much a beginner," he said pushing his glasses up his nose as he gave an awkward laugh, "even though I do LARPING and stuff but I don't think that counts as physical activity? Even though it takes place outdoors?" it hadn't counted for experience with weapons so he was probably pushing this as a favourite outdoor activity.

"Glad to have you in the class Guillermo" Dwight said with a nod. "And of course LARPS count as physical activity. Sure, you might not be swinging around real swords and carrying real shields but you are outside, running around, and being active. So of course it counts, and having fun is just an added bonus."

Dwight gave Guillermo a slight grin as he continued. "I mean, I used to LARPS and complete at ren faire tournaments when I was your age. Still would in a heart beat actually" he added in a whisper. "So think you might be in better shape for this class than you think!"

Nerds.

Troy was in this class with a bunch of nerds.

He was gonna crush this.

"Yo," he said, with a lift of his chin, "Troy Barnes. I used to be star quarterback for my old high school, and this class is the closest thing I'm getting to actual sports at this school, which, by the way? Is tragic. But I would have gone pro if it weren't for a keg-related accident," that had been entirely on purpose because someone couldn't handle the pressure, "in my sophomore year, so I'd say that's just about as close to pro as you can get without actually, you know, being pro."

"Nice to meet the island pro then" Dwight said with a particular look as he eyed Troy and then glanced at his teaching buddy. "I am sure you will be quite the example to the others in class of what a pro athlete can do and how far they are able to go. I will be expecting great performances from you in class, Troy" he added with a slight smirk.

"I'm Kurt Wagner" Kurt said with the usual shy smile and wave. "I guess I would say I'm ok with physical activity... I am very active but haven't really ever played any actual sports. I am pretty good at things requiring flexibility and balance though" he said with a slightly proud grin.

After introductions, the duo has a basic baseline assessment set up for everyone:

10 jumping jacks
10 pull-ups
10 pushups- on toes or knees
10 toe-touches -standing or sitting
10 seconds standing on one leg

After doing the assessment- how did you do? Report your results to your teachers!

Jo couldn’t even manage to get past one jumping jack and trying to do one in a dress was proving to be difficult.

She sprawled out on the ground panting at the effort that just one jumping jack had took.

Sometimes, Gladio wondered if he should feel a little bit bad about potentially torturing teenagers like this, but...naaah.
