The Library

Janet came in after her morning classes and opened up the library.

"For me, a life involved fancy dinners, expensive dresses and fundraising," Elizabeth grinned. "At least for a while."

"Sounds like fun," said Janet. "For the first few times. I'm sure I'd have gotten tired of it after a while." Then she shook her head. "I'm lying. Except for the fundraising part. That I'd get tired of right away, I think."

"Depended on the people there mostly," Elizabeth shrugged. "Sometimes I had a great time. Others, I think I spent most of my time in the lady's room hiding from some slimey political aide who would try to convince me that both my professional and personal lives would be so much better if I just slept with him." She rolled her eyes in disgust. "Sometimes I'd tell them that I was dating a lawyer who specialized in sexual harrassment suits."

"That sounds like a smart move," said Janet. "Either hiding out or telling them about your fake boyfriend. Or were you really dating a lawyer?" Janet rolled her eyes. "What is it about men being such sleazes? I've probably run into some comparable jerks."

"I've never dated a lawyer," Elizabeth said. "I told you. I've always had a weakeness for doctors." She grinned impishly.

"I think doctors are great," said Janet. "Though I don't think I could date a medical doctor. Personally, I'd have to strangle one after about a week."

Elizabeth paused and counted down on her fingers. "Mark was pre-med, Steven was a medical student. Then there was Gary, Rick and Simon. And you, of course."

She blushed. "That sounds awful when I think about it like that."

Janet started laughing. "It really does sound awful!" she exclaimed, sinking down in her chair. "You only love me for my medical skills."

"Oh, hon, it's really not your medical skills," Elizabeth grinned.

"I should hope not," said Janet, lifting her head to look at Liz. She covered her mouth and bit back a chuckle. "That would be kind of depressing."

Elizabeth tilted her head and looked at Janet thoughtfully. "I don't think you've ever had to practise your medical skills on me," she said. "Other skills, certainly..."

"If I ever have a situation where I have to be a doctor and practice medicine on you," said Janet. "I'm going to be very unhappy." She stuck her tongue out at Liz. "I could practice my Latin," she said, her eyes wide.

"I will do my best to try and ensure such a situation never arises," Elizabeth promised. "We could practice Latin if you so desire," she replied innocently.

"Oh, absolutely," said Janet. "There are some twisty sentences in that language. I have a hard time wrapping my mouth around them."

"I wouldn't want you to have a hard time wrapping your mouth around anything," Elizabeth said. "I'll be happy to help."
