BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday morning

Kiem had no idea where he was. Well, he sort knew, he was in the Portalocity Lounge, waiting for a shuttle to take him to his new school, which seemed to be as far away as the Emperor had been able to send him.

It could be worse, he supposed. He tried to hold on to that thought.

A large, glittery sign said FANDOM HIGH. It was hard to miss. Kiem sat down on a seat next to him and let the hoverchest that had floated next to him lower on to the floor.

He looked at his wristband. There was no connection, just some stored data available. We wasn't even going to be able to check the dartcar results.

She really should have paid more attention in her classes, "I think it's on the other side of the Atlantic, if we're on the East Coast of America? It took nearly a day to travel here,"

She paused, "I wasn't expecting America to look so futuristic,"

Kiem looked around the room.

"I don't know where that is either."

Also, it didn't look particularly futuristic to him.

"You've not heard of America?" Jo blinked, "um ... It's the country we're in right now ... well we're at an airport, I believe the school's in Maryland,"

She paused, "so where's home for you?" she asked.

He didn't realise he had ended up on one of the vassal planets. He should have paid more attention in geography class.

"Oh ... I've never heard of either of those places," Jo admitted, "are they far from here?"

They had to be.

Jo had a very limited concept of astronomy.

Kiem hadn't heard of Mars either, but since he might come across as not knowing anything about other planets than Iskat he said:

"Yes, like Mars."
