notanaxemurderer: (looking up)

BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday morning

Kiem had no idea where he was. Well, he sort knew, he was in the Portalocity Lounge, waiting for a shuttle to take him to his new school, which seemed to be as far away as the Emperor had been able to send him.

It could be worse, he supposed. He tried to hold on to that thought.

A large, glittery sign said FANDOM HIGH. It was hard to miss. Kiem sat down on a seat next to him and let the hoverchest that had floated next to him lower on to the floor.

He looked at his wristband. There was no connection, just some stored data available. We wasn't even going to be able to check the dartcar results.

[Newbie shuttle! After some OCD that is now up]

The response got a cool lift of Gladio's eyebrow before an impressed grin tugged at the corners of his mouth when he took the bottle back. "Smart," he complimented, slipping it back into his bag just as smoothly as he'd retrieved it. "But you know where to find one if you need it.

"Name's Gladio, by the way," he offered next, something a little more difficult to hand back or refuse. "So there goes your no taking potions from complete strangers excuse."

Jon managed a barely-there smile in response. "Jon. Jonathan Sims. It's nice to meet you, Gladio. Would you...that is, I was wondering if you know what all this is about. It's...very glittery."

"That?" Gladio, arms now folded in front of him, arched his neck back a little toward the sign. "Oh, that's just the start of it. Wait until you see the island itself."

To his credit, Gladio had only been there for certain events in the past, when the glitter was usually in full swing.

"But it's for some boarding school," he offered more helpfully. "Fandom High. I'm on my way there to teach. With some friends."

He was back to eying Jon...and his wounds...a little closer now, though.

"Your turn," he said. "What's all," he nodded at Jon's...everything right now, "this about? It's very...well, you know."

It was (presumably!) his blood, after all.

The shirt was his blood, yes. His hands were...not.

"I...um. The- the end of the apocalypse?" He hoped. He hoped the world was back to rights. He hoped that Martin was still alive. He tried not to fall to pieces. Fortunately(?) he had experience at that.

"I just found myself here." He'd felt a bit of a pull, but that wasn't the sort of thing he was going to say to this so far nice but much larger than him man.

"Mmm." The sound was part grunt, part hum, and all confusion, as Gladio's brow furrowed with his frown because all of that sounded pretty far out of his wheelhouse, really. Sure, he knew through Prompto (and now Ignis) that this place could get connected to a lot of weird stuff, but that didn't mean he'd expected he'd have to deal with it much himself.

"Sounds tough, man," he concluded. "Apocalypse, huh? That's...well..."

Not something he'd have to deal with until next year.

"Might've just gotten yourself an upgrade."

Which still probably didn't help much...

Jon's smile this time was stiff. He'd gotten himself quite enough upgrades, thank you.

"It wasn't exactly ideal, no. Can I ask- that is, I don't really know where I am."

United States, Maryland, Baltimore airport, he suddenly Knew. Ah. So there was still that, then. Lovely.

"Not sure I'd be much help with that one," Gladio admitted wryly. "I'm not exactly from around here. But, as I understand it, the city's Baltimore, the nation's called the United States of America, and the planet's Earth."

And it was enough like Eos that you might not even notice until you got an eyeful of the night sky without having to watch your back.

He was really looking forward to that.

"The planet...so you're...what, an alien?" Somehow, that was something Jon had never encountered before. He couldn't help being a little skeptical, just by default.

Believe him, Jon, it was just as weird for Gladio to think about it, too.

He scoffed sort of a laugh and shook his head. "Technically speaking," he said, "yeah. Sorry for the lack of green skin."

"Well," Jon said dryly, "I hear it's not easy being green. 'Technically speaking' sounds like a hell of a caveat."

"Might be better than being red," Gladio pointed out, with another consideration for the poor, unsalvagable shirt. "And, yeah, trust me, 'hell of a caveat' feels like a real understatement sometimes. Teaching high school on a foreign planet wasn't exactly something on my bucket list. I didn't even know there was high school on foreign planets a few years ago."

"So you're...your planet isn't Earth, then." He belatedly realized what Gladio meant. "I'm not terribly fond of being red, either."

"It's called Eos," Gladio offered helpfully. "Not sure where it is in relation to this planet, but from what I can tell so far, they're really not too different from each other."

If you looked past the whole Starscourge thing, which was...pretty significant, really, but this guy seemed to have more than enough going on right now to bother with getting mired in details.

"Goddess of the dawn," Jon noted. "Rosy-fingered Eos, who opens the gates for the sun to rise. She's Greek, though; your name's Roman. 'The sword'. Different languages here."
