"You know," Summer said, as she got their final session rolling that fateful Tuesday morning, "the last class is always the most difficult, because I feel the need to make sure I leave you all with a strong impression of what this class was and how you felt about it, so there's always this pressure to make sure the last pie is really memorable. That said, you guys almost got a pickle pie for today...I can definitely still give you the recipe if you're interested, but, since we already did a vinegar pie and I sort of felt maybe those might be in the same subgenre of pie, today, instead, you're getting Cool Ranch Dorito Pie."

Was weed somehow involved in this decision? Surprisingly, no! The ultimate deciding factor was thinking about that distasteful little expression Hannibal got on his face whenever a recipe seemed to rely on something highly commercialized and processed, so you can all thank him for this one, really!

"I did also consider attempting an actually normal pie for the last class, too," she admitted, "but, I mean, come on. Where's the fun in that?"

By now, at least, if you weren't already one, you're probably an expert at making pie shells, an activity that, no doubt, would leave one feeling a little sense of longing for the potential of said pie shell, a potentially that you knew would be inevitably squashed by the horrible things that would be put into it that day.

Like the onions and bell peppers you were going to be saute-ing up. The Doritos chips you were going to grind into a fine crumble in the food processor. The eggs and sour cream to create the creamy base for this concoction! The plentiful bags of cheap-ass cheese sprinkles that Summer had to distract the panda in able to sneak away with for the top! Don't forget a nice artful drizzle of sour cream on top, too, once you've finished your masterpiece!

Stark just had to keep telling himself as he worked that this was not a dessert. If anyone was considering it a dessert he didn't want to know about it. Ever.

Hannibal refused to take any of the blame for this. He was indeed, however, wearing a very distasteful look at the Doritos. The rest of it was...well, surprisingly not terrible, if you were going for a cheap quiche. But was so much artificial flavor and color really necessary?

Stark was still reminding himself that this was not a dessert when it came time to take a bite. That helped, a little.

"It's...odd," he said finally. "I thought the chip taste would be stronger. Not that that would be better. I think. It just seemed like it would be stronger." Cool Ranch was a fairly strong flavor on chips, after all.
