Summer Shenanigans- Wednesday, August 11

Oh hey, Anakin and Beaker weren't here today! Instead there was a short brunette with a megaphone. She didn't need it, she just liked it.

"Welcome to today's Shenanigans. Grandfather's not here. I'm Jaina and I'm going to be your drill instructor today," she announced. "Today you're going to be doing a mud run. You will get dirty, you won't like it, and I won't care."

Jaina hadn't realized it was Truth Day, that was just how she talked to people.

"We have five obstacles for you to get through to make it to the end, where you will win absolutely nothing. Maybe my grudging respect. No teams today, it's every being for themselves. And I don't know hardly anyone's names so whoever I point to has to come down here and participate, and I know who I'm pointing to so don't think you're getting away with anything."

Get snacks! Maybe talk to people and confess every little thing on your mind when asked?

You still get ugly shirts. How else is anyone supposed to know you're a voluntold?

You'll army crawl under ropes through the mud! There are also little speed bumps you'll have to get over, just to make it more difficult.

Climb up a wall while covered in mud. You can help each other! You'll probably need to, since you're covered in mud now.

Climb across the monkey bars! You know what's below you? Mud. And if you fall you have to start the moment bars over.

You'll have to get over a course of six mud dunes about three feet high. Just enough to be annoying.

You know how men's gymnastics has the rings? Well, you have to use a line of four of those to swing your way across a pit of ice water.

Yes, ice water. With just so much ice in it.

Maybe you're wet, maybe you're just muddy.

Wanda had just stopped being surprised when she got called down. Instead she had the weekly dread of what her shirt looked like this week.

Honestly, it could have been worse. This would be a nice shirt to work out in if it wasn't totally ruined by the end of this.

"I didn't realize it was a family trait," Stark grumbled, eyeing the shirt.

"So what's the catch?" Astrid found herself asking, considering her shirt and the course and having been going to this school for way too long to think that was it. "Really?"

Her brain seemed to try to think of the most absurd shenanigan related twist.

"Is Dean Skywalker actually hidden in the course somewhere waiting to release gremlins on us when we least expect it?"

She sighed as she found herself admitting, "I really don't think I can deal with gremlins today."

Annie had kind of accepted that if she was in town, she was going to be doing this.

And God, this was kind of an awful shirt. She'd totally wear it to sleep in (and Diego would probably think it was great) but this was the last time anyone would see it in the light of day, gross.

And really, as far as activities went, this could have been a whole lot worse. This was just like normal training, but...gross and dirty.

"Every week," Harry sighed, donning the shirt he didn't feel super comfortable in.

"I don't want to do this!" Faye announced as she took her shirt with a long, tired sigh.

It was both truthful and something she'd normally say, anyway.

Summer definitely came down to the shenanigans to at least witness them even if she didn't get called ~~really! I promise! totally always there~~, because how else would she know who was entitled to at least one free jello shot as per the participant rule, huh?

"Ohhh, man," she said, grinning like an idiot as she found a place to sit and enjoy the show with her usual Snacks to Celebrate Not Being Called, "am I glad to get to skip this one out!"

Some Truths were definitely easier than others!

"I don't really like this shirt," Sakaki admitted, as if the decision that she would usually make inside of her head needed to be stated outloud for some reason today, but she still shrugged and pulled it on and started stretching a little so that she would be better prepared to do a good job on the run, even though this sort of thing really did come naturally for her.

Usually.

"This is actually almost normal this week," Wanda said as she approached Annie.

You know what Harry didn't do a lot of normally? Army crawling. Plus he kept sticking his head up too much to see how far he had to go and knocking his head on ropes.

And it was here that did it. This was the moment where Sakaki, doing well so far without much effort because of her natural prowess for these sorts of things (although she was clearly less good at avoiding getting covered in mud! It was fine! She didn't like this shirt anyway!). Because as she was getting ready to just hurdle easily over the dunes, her ears caught up on somehting that sounded suspiciously like an adorable meow not too far away. She tossed a glance over her shoulder as if to measure her lead, blinked, realized outloud, "This doesn't even matter!" and left the course to find the kitten she was certain she heard.

And sure enough, there one was.

And sure enough, as soon as Sakaki smiled and said hello and reached out her hand with an "I'm not going to hurt you," the cat clamped down on her fingers with a bite that had no intention of letting up any time soon.

She shouted out in surprise as much as pain, though the tears springing to her eyes were pure emotion.

"I just want you to love me!"

Because the Truth hurt. In more reasons than one, in this case.

"It's like a real activity," Annie agreed, pulling her shirt on with a little face. "I mean, people sign up to do these on purpose and everything."

Instead of something insane that Anakin had probably seen on Facebook and thought was funny, or whatever his normal selection process was.

It was about now that Harry was realizing he was maybe not the most athletic person, even despite the broom sports and fighting for his life every June. But mostly he wasn't tall enough to get a good grip on the wall to pull himself up.

He was trying, though! And failing to actually get over the wall.

"I hope he's back for paintball," Faye said, more honest about that than she'd like because she would much prefer to pretend that she didn't even notice if Anakin showed up to things, so little did he matter to her, et cetera, et cetera.

But she was just chalking that honesty up to her lack of filter being perhaps especially strong today? She wasn't even drunk. Weird.
