OMG I Could Just PIE - Tuesday, Second Period [08/10].

"Alright, guys," Summer greeted, with that eager light in her eyes that meant she was clearly eager to get on with this week's pie and therefor wasn't going to waste time with pre-amble or pleasantries. Nothing about this class should be pleasant, after all, right? "I think I found it. I think I found the recipe that might be a good case for why I should officially be banned from Google," which, lbr, she crossed that threshold a long, long time ago, actually, "and I am proud," way too proud, "to bring that recipe to you today.

"What is that recipe, you may ask?" Filled with dread and concern and so she was probably building it up to be not nearly as terrifying as she tried to make it seem, but, really, this one wasn't so much going for terror as it was complete and utter bewilderment. "Alphabet Pie! And what even the fuck is alphabet pie? Well, don't you worry, we're about to find out!"

"So," Summer cleared her throat and turned her attention to the ingredients at the stations, "alphabet pie is basically a pudding pie, of sorts, that will have use cooking alphabet noodles specifically for some reason with cinnamon red hot candies for the filling, because why the fuck not, am I right? Plus, it makes for a really beautiful pink color, which you know I am down for. And now that you know what you're getting yourself into, let's get some water boiling so we can cook our noodles and candy together for our pie, which is a totally normal way to start a pie, am I right?"

Stark was just shaking his head a little as he worked on this recipe. Why were the noodles even involved in this? Why were the noodles letters? Why so much cinnamon candy?
Why was Summer like this?

There were always so many questions during this class.

That was very...artificially colored. Hannibal could think of much more interesting (and natural) ways to get a similar color. But this was Summer's class, so here he was, cooking candies and noodles together.

It's a pie made of noodles and cinnamon candy and pears and pineapples and whipped cream! Like, seriously, were they high when they came up with this one, and why were they not sharing?

If anyone could think of a good reason why the noodles, and why alphabet noodles specifically, though, she would greatly appreciate the insight!

"It's very...strong. The cinnamon," Stark said, after a hesitant bite. He'd been hoping that somehow the fruity flavors might overcome the red hots. His hopes had been dashed! "But it is very pink."

"I knoooooooow," Summer enthused, waving around her own forkful of confusing pink pie, "right? Like, for an era that seemed pretty much allergic to seasoning and spicing their food, they sure decided to go buck wild on the candies, didn't they?"

"They did," Stark agreed, frowning slightly at his pie. "But why?"

"At least," Summer offered, "being super gung-ho about a candy in a pie makes more sense than the alphabet noodle part?"

Which was to say, she had no answers to any of these questions, Stark.

"Candy does make more sense in a dessert than the noodles," Stark agreed. "And it's an oddly specific noodle. There must have been a reason."

That reason would probably remain a mystery forever.

"Maybe," Summer proposed, when a sudden quick google search prove unhelpful, "whoever invented this recipe just really liked alphabet pasta. Like, a lot. Like, even more than they like cinnamon red hots...."

"Maybe. But they seemed to like the cinnamon an excessive amount..." Stark shrugged. "Most of your recipes are strange in some way. Or many ways. And never fully understood."

Who may be thinking of other ways to make noodles that gorgeous pink color, because, hello, branding, but also let's maybe try to figure out something that didn't kill everything with cinnamon breath mint flavor?

The amount of time between me finding alphabet pie and choosing it for the class was pretty much ZERO. I was locked in before even looking at the recipe, and when I saw the second ingredient was FUCKING RED HOTS? SOLD. TAKE MY MONEY.

"40 minutes or until noodles are tender". TENDER? Noodles are nonexistent after 40 minutes!
