How to Ride a Bike | Thursday, Period 2

"Morning, everyone!" Annie sang out, in a much better mood this week. And instead of cooped up in a classroom watching a movie -- which had not been in the syllabus, no -- Annie was instead in front of the same bank of bicycles from a couple weeks ago.

Except now they didn't have training wheels. There were training wheels available, off to the side over there, along with the associated brackets, bolts and tools that would be needed to affix them to a bike.

"So, today, we're going to work on actually riding these suckers without the training wheels," she said, cheerful enough as she wheeled a bike over to demonstrate. "You'll want to keep one foot on the ground, like this, until you're ready to start pedaling -- and then once you start pedaling, your momentum will keep you upright. And it's going to feel so weird, probably, and you might fall over, but it's okay. We're all just learning." And since it was the Danger Shop, no one would actually get hurt, anyway.

That would be a future class. Something to look forward to!

Stark, unsurprisingly, was not a natural at this. He was leaning too much to the left, at first, then overcompensating the other direction. The bike tipped over rather a lot.

He'd get there, eventually.

Alara misjudged how much pressure she had to put on the pedal and the first attempt she had at riding without training wheels resulted in her breaking said pedal.

It was going to take awhile for her up get the hang of this.

Astrid didn't seem to have much of a problem with balance and her bike. It was the motion part and getting it move forward that seemed to be her issue, the frame wobbling with uncertainty as she slowly gave the pedals a push and moved forward....a very tiny little bit at a time, but hey! She stayed balanced! Which was honestly more she could hope for even if that was where her entire focus had been.
