"Morning," Rita said. On the students' desks, there were copies of the latest few issues of school paper. "Today, we're talking about editing and proofreading others' work. Find something in the last three issues that you find to be poor journalism, for whatever reason."

John actually does his work first.

"In the seventeeth issue, a generalization is made about people meeting monsters. While Fandom is an easy place to make that generalization, the truth is not everyone has met a monster. Also, in the sixteenth issue, information was omitted."

"What information?" Rita asked, ignoring the first statement because he was actually right.

"Well, in the Shipping News, there was absolutely nothing mentioned about your renewed relationship with Wilbur."

Rita sighed, and toyed with a pair of children's scissors on her desk, which she had picked up out of curiosity the week before.

"As that column seems to be mostly fluff and mostly subjective, there's no reason why it should be entirely conclusive."

"Yeah, but sometimes it's a cute column," John remarks. "And it did bring us such great events as boykissy and girlkissy."

"The question isn't whether it's cute, Mr. Crichton. I'm not arguing that," Rita replied. "It's whether it's inclusive enough to mention every relationship on campus. And I doubt that it does; ergo, your point doesn't stand."

"Bummer. But, my first point? How was that?"

"...I suppose that makes sense, but it's also not presented as fact, is it?"

"Your instructions didn't say to find bad factual arguments," John points out. "It was a generalization made in the media. The author used Fandom as an overlay for everyone. Can't do that."

Rita...actually smiled.

"Well done."

"What?" John cups a hand near his ear. "I'm sorry...could you repeat that?"

"I said well done. Don't ruin it."

"Um, in the seventeenth issue," Rory said, "one of the writers uses netspeak to communicate, written out phonetically. While some might find this to be a clever and amusing writing technique, others might find it difficult to read and unprofessional."

Rita raised an eyebrow. "Where is this instance?"

Rory cleared her throat and read aloud, "...mixing it up with students and faculty alike (and trying to steal pets, oh em gee double ewe tee eff)."

Rita consulted her paper, searching for the phrase. "Where is this? Who wrote it?"

"Um. Me."

Rita sighed, and rolled her eyes. "Very well, Ms. Gilmore."

"In the sixteenth issue, there is excessive use of ampersands, slash marks and strike outs, Miss." D'anna finally offered. "Strike outs, which I assume are some sort of mistake on the writer's part, should be removed before publication."

"I'm not sure what the strikeouts are intended to be in our little version of a newspaper," Rita sighed. "I suppose it's intended to be some kind of flirtatious, cute thing, but I don't understand it. Well done, though."

"Thank you, Miss." D'anna grinned and turned her attention to her giant-jumbo-super-huge-omg coffee.
