Shop Class, Wednesday

The classroom was set up exactly like it had been on Monday, and Sam was once again at the front of the room. She took a sip of coffee and waved to the class.

"Morning, guys. Today is implementation of your sketches for the conifer habitats, as you know. If you weren't here Monday, I need a description of your pine or cypress tree and a sketch of your habitat before I'll let you near the power tools."

She gestured to the table saw. "As for the power tools, please remember to wear your safety goggles and watch where you put your limbs, especially when the blades are running. Any horseplay or fighting around the tools, and I'll assign you detention. This school's liability insurance is high enough already."

Kawalsky looked at the wood. "We're using wood to make stuff for trees. Isn't that like cannibalism?"

"They're a different species," Sam retorted. "Think of it like us eating steak and chicken."

"Except more useful, becaus eyou can't build houses out of chicken."

Xander blinked as he selected a piece of lumber.

"Well, you could, but, um. Eww."

Kawalsky shrugged and went about making his thingy for the tree thingy. He was so clued in today. Yep.

Why does Nadia have an umbrella with her?

Because she's smart, that's why.

She sets to work on making her ~~totally handwaved on Monday~~ sketch a reality.

"Nadia? What's with the umbrella?"

Nadia blinked up at Sam. "Just, you know, in case."

New thing Xander has learned, in addition to Measure twice, cut once: Hold the hammer in the middle. Too close to the head and there's no power behind it. Too close to the end and ow, thumb.

Ow, thumb.

"Miss Sam? Sorry about missin' class on Monday." Duo says sheepishly. He shows her his ~~totally handwaved because the mun is on Spring Break zomg~~ description and sketch. He then eyes the power tools a bit warily. "Man, I'll never get used to this, 'tools-with-no-lasers' thing." He grins. "Good thing safety is high on my priority list! Though not the safety of stuff I'm blowin' up, but that's another ballgame." He adds.

"No problem, Duo," Sam said, smiling slightly at being called 'Miss.'

"You'll like them, I think. They're very noisy and destructive. Nothing replaces a good explosion, though." She looked the room over. "If I can get approval and Mac's still not back, maybe we'll do that next week."

Ivanova, echoing Duo, looked a bit sheepish when she found Sam. "Sorry about Monday, Sam." She handed her a ~~just as handwaved because the mun is lame~~ description and sketch. "Somehow Mondays and early classes don't mix. I blame it on running out of coffee."

"Thanks for getting this in to me, Ivanova," Sam said, looking the sketch over. "Seems like you've got it under control. And running out of coffee is definitely, er, grounds for cancelling class in this place."

John grabs a plastic tub type thing and drills several small holes into the bottom of it for water draining purposes.

He loads the tub with soil, packing it tight and then puts another larger, plastic tub underneat the existing plastic tub to watch water and excess soil. Using good ole duct tape, he attaches a small desk lamp to the side to imitate sun.

Stark got to work making a home for his weetiny pine tree. He made it a little wooden box, easy to take apart for when the tree needed a bigger home, with a lining and drainage holes, and added a tray underneath to catch any excess water or dirt. Then he filled it up and planted the weetiny tree. Then he watered it and patted it and told it he hoped it would like its new home. Because you should always be nice to the plants ~~even if they aren't blue~~.

Feed the weetiny holographic dinosaur, chat with the alien entity possessing your mind, etc.

Kawalsky brought Denver the weetiny holographic brontosaurus a baloney sandwich.

"Is that a holographic sandwich? If it's not, what happens when he eats it - does it just fall on the floor, or, like, disintegrate into light, or what?" Xander cocked his head.

"It's real. It gets holographically digested." Kawalsky grinned. "Then I don't have to clean it up."

"God, I'd hope not. That'd be a little too realistic of a hologram." Xander wrinkled his nose.

"No, I neglected to program in the holographic dinosaur poop," Sam rolled her eyes.

[ooc: *sings* Denver, the last dinosaur, he's my friend and a whole lot more. . . . And now that will be stuck in my head all day.]
