Mathematics: All Classes: Wednesday 4.12.06 Period 1
Broots is doing his best not to yawn too frequently today. "Okay guys, if you owe me make-up work, today is the last day to turn it in. Also, Intermediate? I want your proposals today. You have until the end of class if you need the extra time.
Beginners, today you get to measure stuff. Take a piece of string, get a circular object, and use the string to measure the circumference of the object. Then, take a ruler and measure the diameter of said object. Divide the circumference by the diameter and you should get an interesting number. Do this for about five objects, then use the computers in the back to see how close your estimate was.
Intermediate, you guys have five problems today.
1. A student at Fandom High decided to become his own employer by using his car as a taxi for the summer. It costs the student $693.00 to insure his car for the 4 months of summer. He spends $452.00 per month on gas. If he lives at home and has no other expenses for the 4 months of summer and charges an average of $7.00 per fare, how many fares will he have to get to be able to pay his tuition of $3280.00? Is this physically possible?
2. If twenty people at school write 43 pages in [(3)^.5] / 2 hours, then how many pages do they write in an eight hour day?
3. Parker went to Toronto to see a Blue Jays game. He had $650.00 for the trip. It cost him $40.00 for his ticket to the game, $216.00 to stay 2 nights at a hotel, $329.00 for his flight and $29.00 for food. He met a man on Young Street who was running a small casino. Parker bet $5.00 in Black Jack and won an amount of money that was triple what he had left after making the bet. He spent half of this at the ball game. How much money did Parker take home?
4. Walter was driving on the highway. A car ahead of him was driving far below the speed limit so he decided to pass. In the first second he gained 5m on the car and as he accelerated he gained 1.5 times as much distance in each second as he had the second before. If there was 30m between Walter and the car he was passing, then how long did it take him to pass?
5. Angela and Rory agree to go on a road trip together. They travel (x + 5)km on the first day. On the second day they travel 2km more than half of the distance they travelled on the first day. On the third day they drove 3 times as far as they did on the second day. If they drove 5000km total, find the value of x.
Have at it. Don't fall asleep."

Re: Beginners
She was still getting a strong sense of... wrongness. This whole conversation was like she wasn't even speaking to Cam. She thought about what she had heard on the radio about John and wondered if something could have happened to Cam too.
"Okay, Cam. This joke isn't funny anymore. Knock it off."

Re: Beginners
Until class was over though, Molly decided to play along with whatever was going on. She didn't want to upset him too much.
"I know you were, Cam," she said with a grin. Then she thought of a way to see just how bad this delusion, or whatever, was. "Maybe you could get me one of those hats for my birthday. It's not that far off."
Re: Beginners
Re: Beginners
Molly gave him a - hopefully not too false - smile and tried to put on a casual air. "So, have you heard from your brother recently?" She picked up her cookie and began to measure it to give the illusion that she was working on the assignment. She didn't even bother to write down the measurements though.
Re: Beginners
Frowing, he copied down the numbers of the ruler and realised he had no clue what to put behind it.
Re: Beginners
Molly chuckled. "He's probably just jealous. You know he doesn't have your sense of fashion."
She measured her donut.

Re: Beginners
And then she remembered.
Molly looked over at Cam in shock before quickly turning back to stare down at her own desk. She thought about the night they had stolen Professor Camulus - the guy with an alien in his head that took over his mind and body. What if that is what happened to Cam? Her hands shook as she held the ruler to the cookie. She used a bit too much pressure though and the ruler snapped as the cookie crumbled into bits. Setting the mess down on her desk, she glanced over at Cam to see if he had noticed.

Re: Beginners
Slowly, she began to gather up the cookie crumbs. As she did so, she thought about what she knew. Even through his delusions, John seemed to know who he was. He'd sounded insane on Saturday night's radio broadcast, but he'd still been John Crichton. This... whoever-they-were didn't seem to know anything about Cameron Mitchell. She wished she knew if Charlie's aliens retained the memory of the person they took over. One last test question would prove that this not!Cam knew nothing about him.
"So, how's Vala?" she asked as she finished cleaning up the crumbs. "I haven't seen her around in a while."

Re: Beginners
She was just babbling now. It didn't really matter to her what she said; just as long as it wasn't true. She wouldn't give him any information that he could use to fool other people.

She had another idea and turned to him. "Speaking of roommates, how are you and Charlie getting along? Did he ever apologize for that thing he did? You really should turn in that paperwork so that you and Logan can move up to the third floor. You've always hated living on the second floor anyway."
