Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, May 19, 2021

Good morning, everyone! The sun was shining, the weather was getting pleasantly warm, ~~the freaking gross cicadas were crunching under your feet~~ and Anakin had set himself up in the park with a bullhorn and a bunch of giant plastic storage containers full of ice water.

Surely this will end well for everybody!

"Today you will participate in the ten toes challenge!" Anakin announced. "Working in teams, you will lay on your backs and balance these containers of ice water on your socked feet. Then, going in a circle, you must each take off one sock, then the other, without tipping the water onto yourselves. It's about teamwork!"

And gravity. And Anakin's personal amusement.

"Come down when I call your name and get your team socks!" He grinned. "Oh, and no powers again this week, please."

"Mostly the name thing," Steve said, "but he and I worked together on a missing facemask case a few months back and he has an annoying habit of lapping me on morning runs."

"I wouldn't count on that changing anytime soon," Wanda advised. "Might need to just accept it and move on."

Steve sighed. "It's really irritating, especially how polite he is about passing. Is he always like that?"

"Yep," Wanda confirmed with a nod. "He's got a very old fashioned way about him when it comes to manners."

For good reason.

"It can take some getting used to." Especially if you were used to how things rolled in the Navy.

Steve chuckled. "I'm much more used to jerks," he admitted.

"I get that," she said. "At least you know it's genuine coming from him? Not sarcastic at all."

"That's the part that trips me up," Steve admitted. "I'm not used to that much sincerity. Is all of your team like that?"

"Oh, god, no," Wanda said, laughing a little at the concept. "Steve's the nicest. I think maybe Thor comes in second? But some of us are real jerks sometimes. I'm including myself in that statement."

"So you're human," Steve teased.

"That's a nice way of putting it," she said. "I'm kind of glad most of the team have normal regarding emotions, I'd be intimidated if everyone was as nice as Steve."

"I'd be wondering about drug use if everyone was as nice as Steve," Steve said.

"Honestly, that's fair," she said. "By the way, might be completely useless in this competition. I never actually tested how good my toe strength is."

Steve laughed. "I have pretty good toe strength, but it's definitely a strange thing to know," he said. "I spend a lot of time swimming."

"I'm glad you mentioned the swimming thing because I was imagining tiny barbells at first." Though those might still exist, she'd have to google it later out of curiosity.

"Don't tell the Navy if those exist," he said, laughing harder. "They'd make us use them."

"The Navy explains the swimming," Wanda said with a nod. "And the competitiveness."

"And the tattoos," Steve added, grinning. "I'm in the reserves now. I work over at the police station."

"I'm over at the magic shop," she said. "Should I be calling you if weird stuff happens there or is there some magic branch of the police here?"

She was still dealing with the mystery of the disappeared and/or invisible Amazon boxes.

"I think we are the magic branch of the police," Steve admitted. "Or at least the ones that don't think it's weird that the raccoons probably run a smuggling ring."

He paused, reconsidering that. "Well, most of us don't think that's weird for here any longer."

"Uh, no, that actually lines up with some raccoons I've met." Well, a raccoon she had met.

"They took Stark's facemask," Steve said, "and your Steve gave them a disappointed look that almost made them cry."

"He can have that effect on people," Wanda said with a nod. "And raccoons, apparently."

"It made me stand up straighter," Steve said, "and I hadn't even done anything wrong!"
