Paintball!, Friday, May 14, 2021 [6th period]

Did Steve have to show up in his Captain America gear? He did not, but it was something he knew he could wash paint off of and he was, at heart, pretty practical (even if he was wearing something semi-spangly). He was bouncing a water balloon full of paint casually in one hand and grinning. "Today we'll start off a bit easy, just to see what kind of level of combat skills we'll working with," he said.

"Also fewer bruises this way," Tony added. "Paintball guns hit pretty hard."

But you will be colorful by the end.

Steve gestured around at the course he and Tony had set up by the old, abandoned campsite in the woods. "There's plenty of moddable stuff to hide behind and climb over," he said. "Feel free to use powers if you have them today--we'll make things tougher as the session goes on."

"And have fun with it," Tony said like half the class wasn't insanely competitive or something like that. "We can get introductions once it's over with."

Or people could storm off because of the competitive nature thing.

Paintball!

Steve and Tony had provided plastic painting jumpsuits if you didn't wear clothes you don't care about, along with a little pouch to hold the paintball balloons. There were clear plexiglass walls scattered around the old firepit as well as haybales, stacks of tires, and regular walls to hide behind.

They didn't provide a ton of high ground to perch on and snipe from. You get hit, you're out! Have fun!

Should a guy who spent the last weekend being tased and waterboarded be out playing paintball? Nope, but Steve wasn't going to do something normal like "make good choices" when he could be hitting people with paint.

He grabbed as many balloons as he could stick into his little...tactical fanny pack thing...and raced off to find a place to hide.

Lana didn't know this man, but that wasn't going to stop her.

She snuck just close enough to be able to see him, got a good look, then sank back behind cover and carefully slid a balloon out of his pack. Then another, listening to see if he noticed.

Steve had been rigorously trained but he was still human and so he could tell something wasn't entirely right, but he couldn't say just what. He glanced around suspiciously, trying to figure out what was wrong.

Anakin had been thrown out of most of the paintball courses in the tri-state area for making small children cry, so he was thrilled to have a new group of people to make cry course to play on.

Since powers were allowed, he used the Force to take a frankly ridiculous number of paintball balloons with him as he found a pile of tires to stand behind.

Stark was fairly good at not being noticed for someone with a shiny metal mask covering half of his face. Especially when he was really trying to be unobtrusive.

So if Anakin was focused elsewhere he might not have seen Stark. Or known where the balloon that just went past him had come from.

Had he missed? Or was it meant as a distraction? Who could say, really.

Anakin took a grip on that balloon and reversed it through the Force, sending it back where it came from and trying to figure out who sent it. "I'll find you!"

Diego was absolutely going to take this too seriously. He was brought up to take everything too seriously.

He grabbed a couple balloons and got behind a haystack, somehow forgetting how this went every time he had been pitted against Five when they were kids.

Because Five was teleporting behind him and lobbing a paint grenade at the back of his head with a, "Watch your flank!" before teleporting safely away.

This was going to force Diego to figure out his new powers, wasn't it? Spite and rage.

Troy realized about two seconds too late that maybe rolling between obstacles when your ammo was in a pouch at your hip...wasn't the best idea.

"Awww, crap!" he said, lifting a red-paint covered hand from where he'd touched the spot where the balloon had burst against his hip like it was a wound.

"...that doesn't count, does it?"

You know what Lydia generally didn't wear? Plastic jumpsuits.

But it was that or ruin all her precious black, so she'd take it.

She ran off to hide somewhere before someone could pick her out like the easy, easy target she was. Especially considering all that rustling plastic.

Stark had enjoyed paintball taking over the island that day last year. He hadn't been sure he would, at first.

He grabbed a pouch of the balloons and looked for a spot where he could see well while keeping his right side covered.

Lana was Sith. It didn't get much more competitive.

Unlike Anakin, however, she was not going to use the Force to carry extra balloons.

She was going to use it to lift other people's balloons and throw them back at them.

Steve had been having a ball and was very pleased to see that he was among the last ones standing at the moment--it gave him some reassurances that he might actually know what he was doing.

At least for the moment!

Lana was taking no chances with Steve; he was strong, fast, and had a good eye.

So she waited until he was busy watching Stark and Anakin, then used the Force to yank all of the rest of his balloons out of his pouch and pull them just over his head, where she sent a lightning burst to explode them.

Well. It seemed that if Arabella had any latent Magus Sagittarius tendencies lurking in her genes, they were not keyed to balloons full of paint.

Oh, well. She was having fun, and that was what really mattered, right?
