Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The good weather seemed to last throughout the day, but the bonfire was there to help with all your s'more needs all the same, much like all the other offerings of the food and drink tables.

Or maybe you just wanted to sit under a tree and judge people from afar. That was cool, too.

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Ulysses zoned back in about halfway through.

So now she was getting something of a startled look.

"Uhh, what?"

"You," Malia said. "With the giant eyes. You look like you're about to get eaten."

Well, he did now. Complete with a few darting glances around the general picnic area.

"... You didn't, like, see a big goat man or anything?"

Just checking!

Malia also darted glances around. And sniffed the air a little.

"No. Bus driver said the goat demon was dead."

"Okay, good," Ulysses said, although the little frown remained. "Wait, so -- how am I getting eaten?"

"I don't know," Malia said. "You're the one who looks like you're going to."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I didn't look like that," Ulysses groused, offended.

(He kind of had.)

He frowned up at her, slouching further against the trunk of the tree. "For a new kid, you're doing like way too much of the judging, right now."

"I'm not judging," Malia said. "I'm observing."

She was also judging.

"Uh huh."

He was not buying it, no.

"You looked like prey," Malia said with a sigh. "That's generally not a good idea unless you want to be prey."

"Uh huh," Ulysses said, again. Still a little offended, and with a sideorder of exasperated. "Well, you're gonna fit right in, here."

Malia smiled a little. “The bus driver said the same thing.”

"You know what, I'm not surprised." He also had a feeling Skywalker had probably had a slightly different tone about it, but that was... whatever. "Congrats, I guess?"

“I’ve never fit in before. Well, in the woods, but that took awhile.”

Also in the psych ward. Let’s be real.

Ulysses really wasn't high enough to be having this conversation.

"What's there even to fit in with in the woods?" he asked anyway. But, slowly.

Malia gave a little shrug-and-handshake maneuver. "Animals?"

Obviously.

"Riiight."

That was even slower.

Malia just watched him, her nose twitching faintly.

". . . I'm going to go."

"Okay?"

People with better social skills would probably tried to have included an introduction somewhere in there, but...

Clearly no one in this conversation had anything stellar to show off in that department.

Malia nodded. Stared at him a moment longer.

Then turned and headed over to the food tables to look for more things to stab.
