There were new students today, and they might need the library - Lana knew it was one of the first places she might have come to - so Lana made sure to open up and herd some of the more useful books into a display in the front. Titles like The Multiverse and You and Fandom History, along with a number of current Earth magazines were waiting to be read.

Meanwhile, Lana was cataloguing the rest, trying to keep them on the shelves for scanning.

The library was open!

Well if there was one giant nerd going to the library on her first full day in Fandom, it would be this nerd from the Victorian era.

Gone was the whalebone corset and hip adjusters from yesterday. Today, Enola was wearing just a simple dress, much to her relief.

Walking into the library there was a sense of wonder at it all and a few curious looks at some of the technology about the place. Eventually one of the books on Fandom history made it into her hands as she approached the front desk.

"Excuse me? Would you happen to have any copies of the Pall Mall Gazette?"

There was a pause before adding: "From approximately 136 years ago..."

Lana paused. "I honestly have no idea, but we can look." She went to the desk and opened up the catalogue on the computer. "Could you spell that for me? Or type it yourself, if you like." She turned the keyboard her direction.

"I'm Lana Beniko, by the way. Pleased to meet you."

"Enola Holmes," she said politely as she looked over the keyboard and the strange contraption it was attached to. She was quite aware of what a typewriter was but this was the first time she actually saw a keyboard of any kind. "A pleasure to meet you as well."

Doing two finger typing she typed in the name of gazette she used on a regular basis to communicate with her mother. "There. I've typed it in but I'm afraid I'm not sure what to do next. I apologize, as you might have gathered I'm not from this time at all."

"Ah, don't worry," Lana assured her. "I'm from another planet entirely." Despite the fact she also sounded British. "You'll get used to it. Right now, press that key marked 'Enter'. That will send your request to the database, and it'll display the results on the screen."

Enola hit the labeled "Enter" key and let out a laugh of surprise. "Oh! It changed. Let's see. It says something about a microfiche. That sounds interesting."

"Right - those are over here." Lana glanced at the catalogue to make sure she had the spelling and year right, then led the way to the microfiche machines.

"These are for reading cards of data." She found the right drawer and started rifling through it for the one Enola wanted. "Each of these holds one or several issues, depending on the periodical you're looking for. Then the machine magnifies it so you can read it properly."

She found the Gazette. "If you need more of that title, they're all here, see?" She pulled out the right card.

Enola took the card and gazed at it in amazement, holding it up to the light. "Fantastic thing the future," she said looking at the instructions on the machine. "I've seen things in the last 24 hours that I never expected."

This all seemed rather old-fashioned to Lana, but it would probably be mean to say so.

"I think that's true of everyone when we first come here," she said instead. "What's been the strangest so far for you?"

"That's actually hard to pinpoint," Enola noted with some amusement. "The invisible bus, and yes I know the irony of what I'm about to say, was quite an eye opener. And apparently my big sibling is 7 but looks fourteen can teleport and do magic."

She paused a bit there.

"I have a feeling if I stop to think about it I may get overwhelmed."

"Invisible bus?" Lana asked. "That would be new to me, too. It was very visible when I came here. Who's your big sibling?"

"Illyana Rasputin. She seems to be a very rebellious spirit," Enola said with a small smile. "I rather like that."

"Oh!" Lana grinned. "I do like Illyana. We've had a few classes together, and share similar views about dealing with people being willfully stupid." Namely, smack, tell off, and/or kill them, depending.

"What classes have you got to start?"

“The willfully stupid. I like that phrase. I will add that to my lexicon,” she said with a grin. “There are many people who deserve such a title.”

Like Five. Who needed a good smack.

“For classes I’m taking the one for career development, CLUE and performing arts. I believe they were chosen for me to prepare myself for my chosen vocation.”

Sabine had gone out to run some hair dye-related errands, stopping at the Perk on the way back, just to have an excuse to stop in here.

"I bring sustenance," she said as she arrived with two coffees and a plastic bag around her wrist.

"Sustenance?" Lana smiled. "That sounds lovely." She cleared a spot on the desk and pulled up a second chair. "How are you doing today?"

"Good," she said, setting the coffees down before claiming that chair. "Changing the hair today. How's work?"

"I've actually had someone stop in, and the books are being mostly well-behaved, so it's not bad," Lana answered.

"What colours will you do next, or should I wait and see?"

"I'm going back to pink for a while," Sabine answered. "The shades of pink will be determined by whatever I feel like doing when I actually do it."

"Only one colour, though?" Lana teased. "That seems sedate."

"I'll add different kinds, it's about the technique," Sabine teased back. "And if it goes wrong then it's an easy fix."
