Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of chairs and tables by the bonfire, and some further out on the lawn for anyone who might want to enjoy their food alone, or just gaze at the new folks and try to figure them out. All of these potential activities were valid!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Okay, so, we can put her down as 'weird or traumatized.'" Illyana pulled out a hand-written bingo card and put an X over one space. "...oh, I made New Kid Bingo. Want one?"

Illyana thought about it for a second. "New teachers count too," she decided, taking a second one out of her hoodie pocket and unfolding it before handing it over to him. "Or I guess if one of the usual inmates does something spectacularly stupid."

Ulysses snorted, smoothing the card out a little more before looking it over.

"Yeah, that sounds fair."

"And of course, a new kid can count for more than one box. People contain multitudes," Illyana said sagely, also offering him a crayola marker out of her back pocket. "I try not to judge."

Yeah, Ulysses' head tilted kind of a lot, at that, and the squint he gave her was comical. "Okay, who are you, and what have you done to my Illy?"

And also was he about to get murdered for calling her that?

"No one's ever called me Illy before."

A beat.

"And you're so approachable, you'd think people would try out nicknames on you all the time." Yeah he didn't actually think that.

Yes, that was that famously warm personality of her shining through.

"...my brother and his friends would call me 'Yana when I was little, but it's been awhile since anyone used it." She wasn't saying Uly couldn't call her Illy (or Yana)... which was as close as giving permission as she was going to do in public. That veered too close to emotional vunerability.

And because he knew better than to poke at that more --

"Anyway, sorry to those gremlins, they might find slimy things already in my bed." Gross, Uly.

Because when the narrative was right, it was right.

Ulysses shrugged, not exactly apologetic. "Julius is back," he said, like that explained something. He sighed. "He wants to sit next to me in Career Development."

And so Uly was back on his bullshit, and he knew it, but couldn't help himself.

"I'm a little disappointed you're not in sex ed with me, it would have been entertaining."
