Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of chairs and tables by the bonfire, and some further out on the lawn for anyone who might want to enjoy their food alone, or just gaze at the new folks and try to figure them out. All of these potential activities were valid!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Sure, it was a little chilly outside. But what would be a better way to spend a Saturday than with some warm food and old/new friends?

Now I want hot chocolate, hmmm.

Liam wasn't teaching this semester, but he had signed up for Nina's community center class, so he figured that was a nice, handy excuse that allowed him to drop in on the picnic and get a feel for this semester's new arrivals.

Lucille had found a place by the fire, cradling a cup of tea in her hands, occasionally finding more biscuit crumbles to wipe from her skirt.

Seivarden had brought her own tea, just to be on the safe side, and avoided the table where people picking food with bare hands still made her lose her appetite. She found a table and took a seat, sipping her tea and looking around to see who was here.

Once Adora had realised there was a picnic going on, she made tracks for the food.

She was a growing girl, after all.

Jesse was still not exactly a large groups of people person, but... well, the picnic was a good opportunity to keep an eye on people, right?

She picked up a glass of juice and some sandwiches and settled at a table near the outskirts of the picnic. Just watching.

After spending some time boggling at the whole 'teacher' thing of the equation, Dante strolled out to the rest of the picnic - way more his bag - grabbed a not-inconsiderable amount of food, and sat down somewhere, stretching his legs out so he could drop his feet on the bench on the other side.

"Perfect."

Ulysses was around, mostly for the food, trying to juggle a plate of food on one hand while still scrolling through his phone with the other.

(Okay, sure, he was also here to see if any of the new kids looked interesting. So sue him.)

Octavia hadn't really bothered with these things since she'd returned this past summer. But she was still reeling from the holiday trip, and the Samsara felt claustrophobic today. And, well, either the Cape Rouge or the mansion in town felt -- just seemed like everything could do with a little bit of breathing room.

So she was here. Loading up on food like she had all those years ago, only... a little more selective, now.

No meat on her plate.

It had taken some wrangling, but Juillenne had a plate full of food, a decent spot not too far from the food tables should she decide to go back for more, and Cam sprawled out beside her.

This wasn't Octavia's first time seeing Liam since her return. She'd seen glimpses of him across crowds, his form down the street.

But this was definitely the first time she didn't turn away, and approached him instead. She definitely looked older, up close.

But the mild expression was the same as ever.

"Hey."

"Now there's a face I haven't seen in a while, still hanging around here," Dante called, grinning as he sauntered up to the table. "Hey, what's up?"

Liam, for his part, looked exactly the same. Not surprising, given the fact that he hadn’t been the one gone for seven years.

(But if the twenty year reunion was any indication, he’d look the same seven years from now anyway.)

“Hey,” he replied back. A little surprised, but certainly not displeased.

For the record, his plate? Also devoid of anything meat-based. Hooray for cannibalism-based trauma?

Wayne had just gotten back down from a nice extended break up at the farm with more'n enough time fer the welcome picnic, glad to see that the place was still standing after his absence. So he grabbed some food, found a place to settle down to enjoy it, and watched the crowd fer a bit, to pick out some of the newer faces, mostleh.

It was obvious from the way Octavia looked up that she had no clue who he was. And didn't look even a little bit apologetic about it, either.

But then a couple seconds passed, and recognition flickered oer her expression, softening it by a fraction.

"Dante," she said. "Hey."

Weird. But Dante was just gonna let that go.

"You teaching here too this semester?" he asked easily.

Octavia nodded, if only to keep herself from saying 'hey' again. Maybe she'd hoped - for no actual reason - that he'd have something more, right off the bat.

"How've you been?"

The words felt wrong in her mouth.

Octavia's tiny, lopsided shrug wasn't the actual answer.

"I just live here."

"In the park?" Dante said. He grinned at her. "Well. Great place for leftovers."

"On the island," Octavia drawled, but didn't quite hit the level of bite she'd been aiming for. "I don't teach."

"Well, I do," Dante announced. "And it's fucking weird. I mean, teaching people guitar out the back of Groovy Tunes or something, that'd be one thing. But somebody actually hired me for the school, if you can believe it."

God, Octavia hadn't thought about Groovy Tunes in years. Something in her expression shifted faintly at the mention.

But she didn't say anything about it.

"What'd the moose get you in for?"

"Sex ed," Dante said merrily.

"Well, at least that's actually useful," Octavia decided. "And not just ridiculous."

Most of her knowledge of the school's classes was through Duke, so...
