Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of chairs and tables by the bonfire, and some further out on the lawn for anyone who might want to enjoy their food alone, or just gaze at the new folks and try to figure them out. All of these potential activities were valid!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I mean, it was for me?" Julius said. "I guess? And a whole bunch of other people from around the world. Like...normal people, you know? Not like Fandom people, but...people-people."

You know. Not mages or dragons in disguise or Queens or anything like that. Just people.

“People-people, huh?” Juillenne echoed, biting back a laugh.

"Hey!" Julius protested, but gave her a rueful smile of his own. "You know what I mean. People who haven't been here. Or had their own weird. Just completely normal people."

"Mm, well, I suppose being labelled 'weird' is certainly a step up from 'cursed'."

She was trying to sound offended, but the laughter in those mismatched eyes probably gave away the game, here.

Julius gave her what was possibly the first 'bitch please' look that the island had ever seen from him.

And gestured down to Camden. "I'm sorry, you're totally normal, Your Majesty," he said. Wryly.

“Don’t you gesture at my cat, Julius my-paperwork-had-different-last-name-and-somehow-I-got-the-office-to-change-it!” Juillenne protested. “Familiars are completely normal in my world, thank you.”

The Queen thing less so, but that was hardly her fault!

"Uh-huh," Julius said. "How's your wargift training going?"

Juillenne didn’t answer, exactly, but there was a cupcake approaching them at a rather high velocity just now...

At first, Julius was delighted to see how much better her control had gotten. But as it came closer and showed no signs of slowing...

"Jules? Err...Jules?"

“You might want to duck!” Juillenne said helpfully.

Surprisingly, Julius didn't duck. He did, however, manage to pluck the cupcake out of the air as it whizzed at them, moving juuuuust a little too fast for it to be reflexes.

"Reflexes!" he said, taking a bite of the cupcake.

“Nice catch,” Jules said, her tone making it clear that she really didn’t buy the ‘reflexes’ excuse. “Maybe I’ll need to keep you and those reflexes around for a bit to help me refill my plate,” she added with a grin.

"It's nice to be back where there's pretty much unlimited food," Julius said. "I can't imagine why I wouldn't share it with you."

WORST. DRAGON. EVER.

“Huh,” Juillenne said. “You needed food, even though you were... in a video game world?”

The whole concept was a little beyond her understanding but she was trying!

"Yeah," Julius said, eliding over the part where he hadn't actually needed it. But hunger still hurt, even if it wasn't going to kill him by itself. "It was like...accidentally ending up in a whole new world, it just happened to be a world we knew through a video game. The only thing it had in common with the actual video game were the locations--most of which were full of monsters just waiting to attack you."
