Creative Weaponry; Monday, Second Period [08/31].

Instructions should have gone out ~~oh so handwavily~~ to the students to be meeting for their class in the danger shop, which she couldn't imagine would surprise anyone, and, when they got there, they'd find themselves on a long, dusty road winding through a somewhat trecherous looking passage with steep, rocky mountain walls on each side. Before the passage really narrows in, there were four small merchant wagons waiting, each pulled by smoll fat goats.

And Amaya at the opening of that passage, ready to go with her usual eager grin.

"Good morning, everyone," she greeted them brightly with a pump of her fist, "and welcome to your first day of Creative Weaponry. I know it's the start of the week, so you're probably not sick of introductions quite yet, but I noticed an awful lot of familiar names on my roster for this class, and I don't think any of you will be too terribly disappointed if we skipped it for this class and got right to the meat of it. We'll get to know each other pretty well through the course of the class, anyway. The concept is pretty simple, but the situations will not be. Each week, you'll be thrown into a situation where you'll need to get yourself a weapon and fast, but without any of the traditional thing you might think are weapons on hand. You will have other things, though, and the idea is to then make a weapon out of those things, and fight your way out of the mess! They may work; they may not! It's all about thinking quick on your feet, though, and see what works and what doesn't!

"If you have any questions, you'll get a chance to answer them before we get started, but first, I'd like you all to find a partner and pick a wagon. Now, we've got an uneven number, which means one person has to go it alone; if anyone wants to volunteer for going it alone, that's fine, too. But, partner up or stick it alone, pick a wagon, and we'll head on out to see what happens!"

There isn't a whole lot, but now's the chance to ask questions if you've got them or raise any other points or concerns.

One person will have to go it all their own, but there are four wagons, each with a different color top: red, green, blue, and yellow. Find a partner (or boldly claim your own path), pick a wagon, and get ready to head on down through the mountain pass!

The concept for this class certainly seemed...interesting, and potentially useful, although Freya would prefer not to think too heavily on a situation where she wouldn't have a lance readily available to her to use, much less her small amount of magical skills, too.

She wouldn't mind terribly working by herself, either, but she did look around to see if anyone would be interested in partnering with her.

"Would you like to work together?" Shuri asked, smiling.

Freya gave Shuri a nod and a smile back. "Let's," she said, and then turned to consider the wagons again. "Which should we choose? I have to admit, I feel inclined toward red myself, but that also seems a little predictable."

Shuri grinned. "I like the red as well," she admitted.

Right, okay. Partner up. Well, technically she supposed she already had a partner in Camden, but honestly, someone else capable of manipulating a weapon of some sort might also be useful, here.

"Jules!" Oh god, Jules, Julius was so glad to see you!

And not just because he was still a little concerned about fighting in this body.

And then he stopped, seeing her crutch and the leg that ended much higher than it should.

"...Jules?"

Oh, Jules knew that look. Back home, things had just gotten to the point where her Council and other advisors (oh, Goddess, she had advisors, and a Council.) were no longer giving her that look.

“Julius!” She beamed at him. “I got in a bit of a fight back home.”

A ‘bit of a fight’, sure. There were ballads being composed about it. No big deal.

Julius gives her a skeptical is that what the kids are calling it these days? look, but isn't going to verbally gainsay her. "Looks like I missed out on an eventful few...weeks?"

New summer semester, apparently?

“I had a few things to take care of back home,” Jules admitted. “It’s been longer than that for me.”

She’d talk about it if he asked, but it was... Kind Of A Lot, so didn’t want to just start in on it.

Julius wasn't entirely sure how long it had been, either. He thought it was the start of the second summer semester and it was just cold because it wasn't Nevada.

"Shit, Jules, I'm sorry." Julius said, then winced. Was that something you were supposed to say? He wasn't sure. "Did, um, everything get taken care of?"

"All of the important things, anyway," Jules confirmed. "Now there's just a lot of bureaucratic nonsense that I'd really rather not have to deal with, honestly, but it is what it is."

And then she narrowed her eyes and gave Julius a searching look, because she remembered how surprised she'd been to return on Saturday and find it wasn't even September just yet. "Julius," she said slowly. "What month do you think it is?"

"...Uh, I dunno," he admitted. "Did the new semester start in June or July?"

"The last semester started in July," Jules supplied. "But that's been and gone. This is the first day of the fall semester."

"...Whut."

"Tomorrow is September first," she clarified, not without some measure of sympathy. Sorry, Julius, looks like you lost most of your summer to being a dragon!

... Er. Being a tiny dragon.

... Okay, being a tinier dragon.

...Okay but like rude, narrative.

"Oh fuck." Julius had gone from being surprised to looking straight-up stricken.

Not wrong though!

Annnnd now Jules felt super awkward for being the one to break it to him, because wow, he pretty much looked like he'd just been gut-punched, there.

"Sorry?" she offered. "I know it's- a lot to take in, missing that much time."

"No, no, no," he said. "My mom--I had until August."

She was going to eat him. And if she didn't, it was only so she could let Ian do it, for missing whatever important meeting he'd set up that Julius had missed.

Or maybe because she was going to send Chelsea to just take him out and save her the bother of picking him out from between her teeth.

...He had way too many siblings willing to murder him.

“Maybe she’ll-“ Jules broke off, shaking her head. Based on their conversations about family expectations, she would not understand. “Maybe time is moving slower back where you’re from?” she offered instead. “After all, if it could move faster for me...”

She was well aware she was grasping at straws here, but she was kind of desperate.

"You think so?" Julius was just going to grasp at those straws with you Jules ~~also that was my imaginitive plan, shh~~. "That's...that's really a thing?"

“When I left Fennbirn, it was mid-December,” she told him. “So coming back to find we hadn’t even reached the end of August... And apparently I’m not the only one who’s experienced such things. I’m sure it must work the other way around too.”

If there had been a God of Dragons, Julius would have hit the ground in supplication.

"Maybe," he said, slowly. "Hopefully?"

...And maybe he would just, like, spend the next few days hiding and waiting to see if his mother came to eat him.

If she tried, Juillenne would absolutely fight her, for the record.

“Also, you’re enrolled in classes for this semester, so if nothing else, the school administration should have your back if she tries to make you go home,” Jules pointed out. And she meant that on more than just a bureaucratic level; the population of Fandom as a whole was always ready to throw down in general.

Please don't fight his mom, Jules. Especially since family honor kiiiiinda dictated he'd have to fight you, too.

Yes he was aware how stupid that was.

"...I'm pretty sure my brother Bob did that," Julius said. "But maybe...? Bob is her favorite."

If she ate him, the Heartstrikers would look their Clan Seer. And also, he'd know.

Unless he was just crazy, which was entirely possible.

Yeah, that was deeply stupid, Julius.

“So maybe he convinced her to let you have some more time!” she said brightly.

But if he didn't, then whoever took over the clan after Bethesda's would also hunt him down and eat him!

...Look, familial cannibalism was a big part of their culture.

"Maybe?" Julius said, unable to keep himself from glancing up into the sky, a bit nervously.

No reason.

Yeah, Jules couldn’t help but follow his gaze, there. “What are you looking for?”

"...Birds?" he hazarded. "You know. Uh. Belated lizard instincts."

Sure babe.

Mmm, yeah, Jules was just going to side-eye him so hard.

Cam, too. You ever been side-eyed by a mountain cat before, Julius?

...He had not, no. It was a new and moderately unsettling experience, so thanks for that, Camden.

"I was a lizard for a really long time!" he insisted.

That was a weak excuse and you knew it, ~~Heartstriker~~ Quetz.

"I really don't think that's it at all," Jules retorted. She didn't know what it was about, but she knew 'lizard instincts' was bullshit.

Julius contrived to look innocent, his lifetime of trying to look unassuming going up against his complete inability to lie.

"So, uh, what about this class assignment, huh?"

SMOOTH, HEARTSTRIKER. SO SMOOTH.

Sometimes, a facial expression could say a lot. And right now, Juillenne's was saying 'I'm willing to let this go for now, but don't for one second think I'm forgetting about it'.

"So. The green wagon, then?" she asked with a smirk.

And Julius' expression was 'And I'm going to maximize the amount of time we're letting this go for.'

"Green wagon sounds great," he said cheerfully.

Surprise, surprise! There's goblins in them there mountains! And as you mosey along through getting to know your partner, they pop out of no where and start to attack!

"Remember!" Amaya called down from the top of the pass where she was keep an eye on everything. "The point of the class is to creative make weapons, even if you've got powers that will show these goblins what for! Use what's in your wagons to make something to attack them with! You don't have to use all the items, and you also have the wagons at your disposal, but remember, you've still got to get out of here when you're done!"

Each wagon will have different items, though, to really up the variety, so here's what you'll find:

Red Wagon: A full chess set including board and pieces, a typewriter, a piece of amber, and a pocket watch

Blue Wagon: A small stack of dollar bills, a megaphone, a notebook, and a fancily gift wrapped box with nothing inside

Yellow Wagon: a lovely pair of red leather high heel shoes, a flag of that kingdom of Serenia, a computer mouse pad, and a tiny wooden toy piano

Green Wagon: a red paper festival lantern, a wall clock, a pack of three plastic toothbrushes, and a science lab microscope.

There are goblins with arrows ready in the rocks that surround you and a few approaching slowly but menacingly on foot with spears raised and ready.

Once the goblins have either been vanquished or unfortunately managed to vanquish you, there's definitely time for a little discussion on what you made, what worked, what didn't, and see what others did, too. Because who wouldn't want to show off what they managed to cobble together? Or who wouldn't want to learn from what they could have done better?

She was really tempted to fudge the randomization feature on the danger shop options to make sure that the students could make some really good weapons, because it was bad enough having to make goblins for this sim, but that sort of went against the spirit of the class, no matter how much she couldn't stand the little rockbiters.
