Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

As the heat continued to bear down on the lawn, many of the tables and chairs were set up in the spots where there was shade, so no one got overheated or anything. That would be very rude for the first day in Fandom, after all.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Yes?" Maeve said, tilting her head. "Why?"

"Oh, sometimes people freak out," Tahani told her. "They get confused about the year--" her, "--having a roommate--" also her, "--people who look like rats--" still her, "you know. The usual."

"My roommate's a cat person. So."

Having a hard time wrapping her brain about that one.

"Mae?" Tahani asked, "or is there another one?"

Please, please don't let there be another one.

"Yep," she said, and sighed when she said, "I'm Maeve."

She was going to get mixed up with a talking cat.

"That is unfortunate," Tahani said, wrinkling her nose up.

"It'll be fine."

Maeve was going to keep telling herself that.

"How comfortable are you being known as 'Not the cat girl'?" Tahani asked.

"Go with Maeve." There would be no other option.

"I'll try, but it might be difficult," Tahani said. "I'm on the radio and I've already reduced two men named Steve to Tattoos and Pecs. In my defense, they are extremely dishy."

See Maeve's eyebrows? See them going just way up? These were the eyebrows of a person with an actual name.

"You try explaining what two Steves do while being harrassed by squirrels," harrumphed Tahani, who was not drunk, she swore.

"There's a rodent problem, too?"

Eh. Couldn't be worse than having an asbestos bathroom. In theory.

"They are extremely nosy, the squirrels," Tahani told her, "and the woodchucks have very good aim."

"...Wait, what the hell are you talking about?"

Wayne had known his warnings would be of no help today. This was all new territory.

"The squirrels that take notes on our every action and I am not crazy," Tahani said in one breath.

Was that weirder than the airplane guy or the cat roommate? Unsure.

"Why?"

That was still an important question.

"Why am I not crazy?" Tahani asked. "I don't know. Honestly, this entire place has been a trial."

"Why would squirrels- and we're just going to go with that right now- care what we do?" Maeve corrected.

Then there was the question about opposable thumbs!

"I have absolutely no idea," Tahani confessed. "They are enormous gossips."

"Any idea how you make them stop?"
She couldn't believe she had to ask that.

"Again, I promise I'm not high, but...rum," Tahani said.

"Well, yeah, you give a squirrel alcohol and they'll probably stop doing a lot of things," Maeve said.

"This is an excellent point," Tahani admitted.
