Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II
As the heat continued to bear down on the lawn, many of the tables and chairs were set up in the spots where there was shade, so no one got overheated or anything. That would be very rude for the first day in Fandom, after all.
[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
"Uh, yeah," he said turning the book around so the girl could see. "Or at least I like to think so. I'm Miles."
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
"That's not too bad," she said, and looked back over at the new guy. "I'm Astrid."
Then there was a moment of hesitation before she asked, "Mind if I sit?"
These things were still awkward for her, but knowing a new kid was probably even more awkward helped, especially if there was already a common ground. And as far as the usual run of people went, this guy...seemed pretty...normal.
Which for Fandom was actually little weird.
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
Because maybe there was another bus? Or maybe people were just dropped off here?
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
"No," she said, "I've been going here for a while now," with a faint pause before she added, "on and off..."
She was mostly looking at the table when she said that, then looked up when she asked, "Where are you from?" Then a small apologetic smile. "You'll probably get that question a lot."

At least he didn't have that issue to deal with.
"Wait. What year is it here?"
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
Har har, time traveller humor.
"It's definitely been a trip, but it's not really that different, either. It's mostly just technology and fashion and the environment definitely didn't much better, either."
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
“Well, I gotta say it’s nice to meet someone here who isn’t an alien or... something.”
He gestured to the art supplies she had. “So you do art too?”
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
Astrid.
"Me and my roommate both, actually. Her name's Sabine, if you get the chance to meet her. You should. She actually is an alien, but not like a movie alien, she's still human, just from space. She wears this really cool armor and has short colorful hair, so she's pretty easy to spot."
She considered her sketchbook, and then slid it over toward Miles.
"You want to see?"
Which would crush her claim that she only 'dabbled,' but she half said that as a joke these days, anyway.
"This is the book I bring with me to the picnics, because I always try to draw the most interesting people. So there's..." She did the quick math in her head, "four different semesters in there, I think? Since...2018. But there's about three semesters missing.""
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
“Whoa! These are really good,” Miles said looking over them in amazement. “Dabble my ass, these are great!”
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2020]
"Thanks," she said. "I've been drawing for a really long time. It's kind of just what I do."

And she was all for promoting disobedience toward parents these days, anyway.
