Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

As the heat continued to bear down on the lawn, many of the tables and chairs were set up in the spots where there was shade, so no one got overheated or anything. That would be very rude for the first day in Fandom, after all.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Yasha had gotten herself a plate of food and then retreated all the way to the shadiest spot she could find at the edge of the lawn, close to the school gates but still within visual range of the picnic so she could at least observe what was going on.

So don't mind the tall, muscled, and freakishly pale woman just lurking as best as someone this visually striking could lurk in the shadows, okay? She was hoping the massive sword that was visible over her shoulder would be enough to deter people from trying to start a conversation or something equally excruciating.

Sorry, Yasha but there was small skinny kid just gawking at the tall, muscled and freakish pale woman carrying a giant sword.

Granted, Miles has seen weird things in Brooklyn but they did not involve all of the things mentioned above.

Yasha had brought this on herself, honestly. And she probably really shouldn't have the sword with her on the school grounds, but A) 7 wisdom and B) what did she know about formal schooling anyway?

Was it weird to see the hulking barbarian woman shuffle her feet and almost try to shrink away from the attention of the small skinny kid? Probably. Was it still happening? Yes.

"Um," she said softly, and fluttered one hand in a very uncertain kind of wave. "Hello?"

Huh. Definitely not the physical reaction he expected from a giant woman with a sword.

“Hi.”

Yeah. He was at a loss.

“Uh. I’m Miles. Sorry. I’m new here.”

That was becoming a repeated phrase for him.

"I don't think I could tell the new students from the old ones anyway," Yasha admitted, but nodded briefly. "I don't actually -- I just work in town, there was food, so ..."

She shrugged, looking sheepish.

"Welcome, I guess?"

If he ever actually ended up witnessing her in a battle rage, it was liable to be brain-breaking, all things considered.

Yeah, Yasha had a tendency to get that from girls for some reason. Was it awkward every time? Yes, it absolutely was.

"Hello," she mumbled again, honestly looking more like she wanted to run away than anything. Attention on her was a terrible thing, okay.

If Adora knew what a thirst trap was she might have pointed out Tasha was a perfect one. Thankfully for both their sakes, she didn't.

"Hey." Did it make it better or worse that she wasn't actually trying to flirt, this was just her normal reaction to tall, buff women?

It was a valid reaction! Just ask Beauregard, who would also agree on the thirst trap issue, probably.

"Hi." Wait, they'd gone over that part already, huh? Yasha grimaced just a bit. Conversations were hard, okay? "Are you one of the new students?"

She might've asked that of any student, mind you. It wasn't like she knew who any of them were.

Somewhere across the multiverse, Catra stopped panicking for a moment and instead became inexplicably annoyed and exasperated.

"Thank you," Yasha said, relaxing just the tiniest bit because hey, talking about weapons was easy! "I feel like I get a lot of comments about it."

Because it was six feet long, Yasha, that was why.

Talking about weapons was easy! Why didn't more people understand that?

"Well, it is kinda impressive." And Adora had had two magic swords, or maybe two versions of the same magic sword, it was complicated, so she knew impressive swords. "Not a lot of people could handle a sword like that."

Was she making finger guns at Yasha? Yes, yes she was.
