Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the coming fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.
With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island.
[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
Her smile was a little strained at the edges, but it was sincere enough.

Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
Of course, even if she did it would've looked nothing like Miles's did...
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
“Well my big sib is from another planet or universe,” Miles admitted. “So that’s new?”
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
See, Miles, weren't you already feeling better about the girl thing?
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
“Oh!”
Miles eyes could not get any wider.
“Uh. So... welcome to Earth? I guess?”
Was he even on Earth at this point?
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
"Thanks. I guess."
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
...
Nope.
"Also I never roomed with a girl before so do you have any ground rules I should be aware of? I assume knocking before entering the room is number one."
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
"Why would that be rule number one," she asked with genuine confusion, then waited just a beat too long to add "Oh, wait. Is that a privacy thing? I knew that. Of course I did."
In case Miles hadn't figured it out already, Adora wasn't that good a liar.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
He was stopping himself here before he said anything else.
"Okay, let's take a step back. Have you ever heard of Brooklyn? That's where I'm from here on Earth."
Did he really just say that?
"I'm assuming you've never heard of it. Where did you come from?"
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
"Etheria's the planet," Adora said. "And I grew up in the Fright Zone, so I'm from there I guess."
Hey, at least Miles wouldn't know that meant she used to be part of the Horde.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
He paused. "You know... maybe I don't want to know the answer to that just yet."
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
Plus Adora didn't want to have one of those conversations where she thought she was talking about something normal and somehow it ended in Bow teary-eyed and offering her a hug.
"But, anyway, I grew up around a bunch of other kids without much privacy." Or any really. "And you just kind of...don't look."
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2020]
“Yeeeeeah, that pretty much tracks,” Miles admitted. “I’m just a normal kid from a normal place. Or whatever passes for normal here.”
