Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that this picnic was celebrating the coming fall semester, it was still technically summer, and the weather was making that clear. It was sunny, with not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was seasonably toasty.

With not a minute to spare, the food was ready, the tables and chairs had been spread across the lawn with just the right amount of glitter on them, and everything was ready to welcome a new batch of folks to the island.

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

There was no alcohol in Barry's cup. But after the crazy ass trip back in the bus, he was keeping an eye on the students to make sure they didn't go off the deep end.

"Hey, Barry, right?" Kitty asked, holding the hand of a toddler who really wanted to be somewhere else.

"Hey, Kitty," Barry said with a smile. "Are you here to watch the newbie get their minds fu-"

And that's when he saw the toddler.

"uuuuudged with?" he asked. Then he grimaced as a way of apologizing.

Don't worry, Kitty! She won't learn those words from him.

"Nice save," Kitty grinned. "That, and apparently I'm your teaching buddy so I wanted to check in."

"Cool," Barry chuckled. "So is there any advice you have for a newbie teacher? I was kind of planning on throwing them into the deep end of the pool the first day. Get their feet wet and start them off with the weird right away."

"Not a bad way to do it. Some teachers start with just introductions the first week, I think because everyone's brains are still broken," she said. "But it balances out the weird then."

“Yeah I remember that from when I was a student,” Barry replied. “By the end of the week I was dreading the introductions.”

"Yeah, it's probably easier to get away with at the start of the week." One of the reasons Kitty liked her classes being towards the start of the week. "What are you teaching, anyway?"

"Science. Or more specifically Fudge, yeah science," he joked. "Trying to take a more immersive approach to the subject than just forcing people to memorize boring stuff."

"We actually really need that, too. They need the basics. Math, English..."

Don't ask what she was teaching.

“They have some good online courses for that,” Barry pointed out, “But that doesn’t mean good teachers can’t cover that. What are you teaching this semester?”

You asked for that one.

"...Superheroing."

Listen. There'd been reasons.

“... You know there are some people I know who could have used that course when I went to school here,” Barry said honestly. “Not me though. People usually throw me into the evil mastermind trope. I prefer being the guy in the chair.”

Kitty looked interested. "Think you might be willing to do that for a class?" she asked.

“Sure. I might even put a pause on all my cursing if any of them are like Steve Rogers,” he joked.

"We'll see how they- Lexi don't eat that- see how they handle it," Kitty said. "Are there any questions you have?"

"Not at the moment," he replied. "But I can always track you down if I have questions."
