Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 24, Period 1, 04.06.06

[OOC: Projects can be presented as late as Tuesday, so take some time and have some fun if you want. Don't forget to wear hats for EC. If you'd like, the shop can probably generate a hat for you. And what follows is probably the shortest main body to a class post I've ever written. Class Info Post.]

"Welcome to the Danger Shop, class! Today are your presentations. When it's your turn, please get up, present your theory, and do whatever it is you're going to do with the shop! I can't wait to see what everyone came up with!"

"And that was what we decided to find out," Archie continues, grinning evilly. "It's quite simple, really -- disrupt the uniformity of the Smurfs' attire."

He looks over as Cameron adjusts the Danger Shop controls again, and one Smurf suddenly appears wearing a smurfy shirt with very smurfy buttons indeed. An astute observer would be able to pick up quite easily that the buttons bear no small amount of resemblance to those on Archie's own jacket.

"What happens when an element of individuality is introduced into this society? We ran this simulation over the course of several days to find out."

Cameron waits a moment so everyone can see the response of the Smurfs to this new extravagant smurf with a shirt. There's a lot of pointing fingers and whispering going on. Some other Smurfs seem to be very interesting and move closer to get a good look.

"As you can see, there's already two sort of reactions going on. The Smurfs are just getting acquainted with this new concept. Let's give them a day to sleep on it," he hits the controls once more and the simulation jumps right ahead to sunrise the next day.

"This is how fashion trends get started," Archie notes as the sun rises over Smurf Village on the second day, and several more Smurfs appear wearing copies of the smurfy shirt. "Unfortunately, fashion trends don't go over terribly well in a society that's heavily reliant on being unified. As you can see, the more reserved denizens of the village are less than pleased with this development."

Sure enough, the muttering and finger-pointing have taken on a distinctly hostile tone.

Cameron taps the controls and once more they jump a day ahead. Again, Smurfs appear wearing even more extravagant smurfy shirts with smurfy buttons while others stand together, mumbling and scowling at the showing off.

"Day three and all is not well in Smurf Village. It seems that the more conservative forces are taking steps."

And sure enough, a smurf carrying an official looking document appears in the center of Smurf Village and starts reading to everyone gathered there. The Smurfs are apparently officially forbidding anyone from wearing smurfy shirts. Some people don't look too pleased.

"Now, let's see how the shirt loving Smurfs are going to take this." He says as he moves on to the next day.

The sun rises over a Smurf Village that is less than idyllic. The populace has been split into two visible factions, between the new, shirt-wearing Smurfs and the die-hard shirtless Smurfs. There are raised voices, signs waving, and -- horror of horrors -- upraised fists being shaken.

"On Day Four, as you can see, tension has risen greatly," Archie says. "It seems chaos might ensue if things get any more heated between the two factions. As it is, Smurf Village's sense of justice is already greatly endangered by the fact that we now have a group of lawbreakers openly defying the anti-shirt edict. What's to be done?"

Another jump ahead and it seems that the smurfs have finally come up with their version of a police. The forces move between the mushrooms and some arguments get out of hand as certain Smurfs still refuse to take off the shirt.

"Day five and it seems that Smurf Village has finally been forced to take action and bring in a police force to enforce the rules. But how will this go down in the long run?" Cameron questions and hits the controls to move on.

"Not well," Archie intones in his most funereal voice as the sun rises on Day Six.

And what a sight -- smoke clouds billowing over the red, ash-laden skyline of Smurf Village as mushroom houses burn and looters run amok.

Cameron lets the simulation fade to black. "It would appear that our theory was correct and that smurfy shirts with smurfy buttons lead to roasted mushrooms and sights unspeakable for Smurfs. One shirt was able to destroy the fragile balance in this almost idyllic village." With these heavy words, Archie and Cameron's simulation draw to an end.
