How To Be Civilized, Friday, Period 3
"Welcome back," Seivarden said, standing in the front of the class as if they were a group of baby Lieutenants she had been given command over. She gestured towards the bag filled with a selection of gloves (none of them Mae-shaped, sadly).
"Unless you have brought your own, find a suitable pair."
She continued: "Last week I asked you about your tea preferences. Some of you had good taste, others not so much. Today we're going to make proper tea."
On the table in front of her were an arrangement of teapots, cups and bags of different kinds of tea.
"Sadly it is impossible to get proper tea flasks here, but these pots will do. Pick a tea you like, brew it according to the instructions and then describe the result and your reflections."

Watch the instruction video
Re: Watch the instruction video
Please pardon Mae's cackling in the back of the class. That was the funniest damn thing she'd heard in weeks.
Re: Watch the instruction video
She was sort of wondering what else it would do.
Re: Watch the instruction video
Mae looked over. Lana was apparently very excited about her new . . . thing? Alright. Mae gave her a thumbs up -- well, she turned her hand so the floppy glove thumb was on top, anyway, and grinned back.

Make Tea
Re: Make Tea
They also didn't fit terribly well, because apparently no one in this town knew how to make gloves for people with small
paw-likehands. So handling the teapot and and little spoons and things was . . . not the easiest for Mae, today. . . .Re: Make Tea
"First, what kind of gloves are those, second, what are you doing to the tea?"
Re: Make Tea
"They're my work gloves," Mae said, the 'obviously' going unspoken. "And . . . making it?"
Torturing it, probably.

With the Force.
So basically, she'd set it up and was staring at it for the moment.

"Why are you staring at the water?"

Re: Make Tea
Nina was of the opinion that if you needed a thermometer to make tea then you'd already failed at making tea.
And because she was in the mood for a green tea, that's what she was making. One with lovely citrus notes.
No, she wasn't going to add anything into it either. There were times and places to add things in—she did enjoy milk in tea before bed—but why would she ruin a tea like this with all of that? The whole point of savouring the actual tea was lost if you just added everything to it until you couldn't taste it at all.
Re: Make Tea
Was she still wearing those gloves?
Re: Make Tea
Nina smiled. “I mean, like, I could use it I guess????????????????? But I’ve never made it while using a thermometer before so I’m more likely to mess it up if I add a tool that’s, like, superfluous to me????????????????”

And not at all looking smug about the mention of a 'proper tea flask' which she very much had, thank you very much, but would very kindly not bring it up, because Seivarden was aware of this fact and it would be very rude to bring it up just to rub it in her face.
Although a part of her would always be tempted to do so.
