Advanced Bird Haberdashery, Wednesday, period 2

Duke started class by taping a sign to the board at the front today:

Class rules:
1. Do not eat the birds

"Look. I know birds are meat. I know cats have needs. But I really don't want to have to clean up the blood and leftover feathers. Capiche? Cool. Let's get started."

The bird of the week was a good foot-and-a-half tall, with brown and white feathers and a long, thick beak. And it made a sound like a monkey that had just watched its rival get kicked in the nuts.

"So, uh. These are kookaburras," Duke said, after a mad three minutes of googling on his phone. "They're native to Australia, are the largest known species of kingfisher, and can apparently develop a debilitating sausage habit. We're going to make them. . . ." He picked up the stack of instructions on the teacher's desk. "Cowboy hats. Sure. Let's get started."

Well, it looked like Prompto was going to get plenty of wibbling in during those 30 seconds, too. At first for the eating the birds part (yes, yes, he knew they were made of meat, but still! Nature was harsh, bro!), and the a second time when cowboy hats were mentioned.

That one was going to hit him right in the feels, man.

Jules considered pointing out that Camden, as a mountain cat, could not actually read that rules list. Or the fact that she had said Cam eating any birds was pretty unlikely in the first place.

In the end, she just sighed and said neither because it was two days later and the player realized they hadn't signed Jules into class.

Recalling that one fashion class he took ages and ages ago (was that his first semester here, maybe? Man! And now he was going to graduate at the end of this one, what a freakin' ride), Prompto was feeling pretty confident he could work well with the leather, and he wasn't wrong, even if it did take a lot of his concentration and focus. But that wasn't a bad thing, really; it was a rare blessing when Prompto actually could keep his concentration and focus on something like this.

Of course, it was a little difficult to maintain it, not because of his lack of attention span today, but because of the kookaburra that kept trying to get into his pockets. He didn't have any sausages, but apparently his pockets smelled like they did?

Which was probably not a good thing...

This was not Sabine's preferred medium, and there wasn't nearly enough time to get it the way she wanted, so she was mostly concerned with the actual decoration of the hat. She'd even brought paints to class to make sure it was up to standard.

And it the bird hated it, at least she had armor.

Shuri had brought fabric from her own stash under her bed, slapped it around the brim of something much closer to a safari hat and was now chasing after a kookaburra. "Do you like biltong, too?" she wheedled. "Get back here. You'll look fabulous."
