[unusual_sith]

Lana had gone for a walk on her way here, only to get sidetracked by a large...round...something in the park, singing.

It hadn't had a bad voice, at least.

She was curious about the songs, though, and since the books couldn't sing to her, she was on the internet behind the desk, looking up what she could remember of the lyrics and finding out about them. They mostly seemed to be either religious texts or very odd pseudo-romantic songs. Honestly, she preferred the religious ones; she might not worship like whoever had written them did, but they seemed sincere and lovely. The others she was really wondering about.

Anyway, there were snippets of Christmas carols going around the library as Lana surfed around them. The library was open!

Sabine had said she should come by more, so she was.

And whatever was currently playing was a little familiar. "I'm pretty sure I just heard a snowman sing this."

"Me, too," Lana said, smiling up. "I've been looking up those songs. Apparently there are a lot of this sort of thing around here, some more interesting than others."

"How interesting is interesting?" Sabine wondered, wandering over.

"Oh, the local religion is fascinating," Lana said. "The bits about traveling in horse-drawn conveyances - I had to look up what a 'sleigh' was - and freezing just make me wonder why they're not taking at least a car, if not a covered speeder. I've given to believe frostbite isn't terribly romantic."

Oh, Lana.

"I'd hope at least they're appropriately dressed and that helps," she said, looking amused.

"This song never says." Lana shrugged. "That settles it; never getting romantic with anyone from Earth. Not that there was much chance of that anyway, but still."

"Not much for the people from here? Because they have other seasons besides winter."

Just asking. No reason.

"Well, I haven't met anyone from here I'm inclined toward, no." She was not at all blushing, shut up. "But if frostbite's their idea of a good time, forget it. They'd probably have equally stupid ideas in summer."

Don't think Sabine didn't notice what she wasn't doing.

"They do spend a lot of time outdoors without sunscreen..."

"Heatstroke, sunburn..." Lana shrugged. "Again, not romantic. Anyway, can I help you find anything today?" Because she had a job here, right. Not just chatting.

"Mostly I was bored," Sabine admitted. "Though if you have any holiday-themed recommendations, I wouldn't mind being at least a little less confused this year."

"I found the religious text it was based on," Lana said. "It was kind enough to show me the section about this holiday, too. I'm still not sure how a lot of the rest of it connects, though. There's nothing about white bears with drinks, or men in red suits, or little horses, or snowmen, or anything. It happens in a desert area, near as I can tell."

"It seems pretty widespread across the planet, so maybe there were cultural additions from colder climates?" Sabine shrugged. "I can't explain why they have Coke."

Lana shrugged back. "Anything is possible, I suppose. This world certainly has enough cultures." She pulled out the bible that she'd found. Or that had found her, really. "Here, it's this part."

"This is probably going to be much less interesting without snowmen," Sabine said, coming over to look.

"Probably, but it's not even a page long," Lana said. She pointed at the book. "Apparently this baby was born, and there was some sort of prophecy about him being a king, and the actual king didn't like it and tried to kill him, and his family escaped to another country. His father seems to have been whatever the local equivalent of Force-sensitive is, because he keeps having visions of what to do."

"Is there a local equivalent of that? Because people from here always seem to think that kind of thing is brand new."

Granted, she hadn't seen any of it personally before coming here but that was not the point.

"I hadn't thought so, but that's what it says." Lana shrugged. "It's hard to tell how much is meant to be literal and how much is metaphorical."

"Given how abnormal this town is compared to the rest of the planet I'd think it's more metaphorical, but who even knows," Sabine shrugged.

"Not me," Lana said. "I don't know whether the text or the songs make less sense."

"The songs have more flying reindeer," Sabine pointed out. "One lighted nose is not enough to fly through dense weather, among other things."

"Bioluminescents aren't even that strong!" Lana agreed. "But the text does have a male child being born to a female human mother with no sex involved, which is also ridiculous."

"...They do know that's not how that works, right?"

Other species, sure. This one, no.

George Lucas didn't.

"I would assume so," Lana said. "But Earth is weird, so who knows?"
